Another fossil fuel peddled lie dead in the water. Batteries can be recycled....
We've just done this. Mrs D's car is fine but very old (2007, she's had it 12 years). Doesn't ever go far (car has only done 30k). Price of second hand EVs seems to have plummeted, there was very little differential between ICE and EV for the type of car she wanted so we've gone EV. Range is not an issue and we will have a charging point put on the drive hooked up to the solar system.Guys guys guys, listen in.
My banger of an ICE car has banged it's last bang. I need a new car.
My mrs is thinking, spend 5k on another ICE to get us through the next few years. I'm thinking we spend more, maybe £10K on a second hand EV.
Now i've never had one, but would be up for it. I've got a driveway I could install a charger. Don't usually drive further than, say, Oxford Swindon area.
So in order to talk my mrs into my plan I need a sales pitch. What EV models would you be looking at, at that pricepoint? And what should I include in the EV pitch?
There are many good electric cars.
Then there are things like this, which I just walked past...

You'll need a long lead!!We've just done this. Mrs D's car is fine but very old (2007, she's had it 12 years). Doesn't ever go far (car has only done 30k). It's less the money for me as i'm buying second hand. That looks like the sort of thing an eight year old would come up with if you gave them a bunch of cardboard boxes and some paint and told them to make a car.
Re Teslas and people who swear not to buy them: I am 100% one of those. I'm looking at an EV later this year when the deal on my existing car runs out. I know the Teslas are very highly rated and nearly all the reviews say they're great cars. But I wouldn't even consider buying one, because I am not giving that piece of shit a penny of my money. Yes I am aware this will mean absolutely nothing to him, but it's a point of principle for me.
I know others who have Teslas who are feeling quite uncomfortable with it now, or at the very least a bit edgy that they'll come back to where they parked it one day to find somebody has sprayed the 2025 equivalent of COCK PISS PARTRIDGE on the side.
It's less the money for me as i'm buying second hand.
But I figure that by buying one, i'm publicly associating myself with him.
I reckon in 5 years nobody will have one, not in Hove anyway, for fear of being a social pariah

Blimey! That sounds out of this worldWe've just done this. Mrs D's car is fine but very old (2007, she's had it 12 years). Doesn't ever go far (car has only done 30k). I've heard a lot of this from people going away from Tesla, both existing owners and those in the market for an EV. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but Tesla had the best proposition for EV ownership for a while, largely because of the supercharger network (which is very good). But the rest of the ownership experience is shitehouse, IMO. Plus there have been LOADS of EVs launched since then that are better and from companies not owned by complete berks. Although there are a lot of Chinese manufacturers have arrived (with more following) and some people take issue with them, too.The way he's going, it'll be about 5 months!
I saw some stats the other day suggesting Tesla sales in Germany are down something like 40% year on year. Germany is where he's been very vocal in his support for the far right AfD party of course. Sales in the UK are down, but nowhere near that much. Must be a twitchy time for the Tesla showroom sales staff, nonetheless.
Surely a Ford Galaxy.Blimey! That sounds out of this world
What car did you go for, just out of interest?
Fiat 500e............wouldn't have been my choiceBlimey! That sounds out of this world

Likewise - was expecting to spend around 10k but ended up spending 13kYou'll need a long lead!!
Sorry, bad joke.
Congrats on making the jump. I'm still trying find the right thing. I'm quite tempted by a sexy little Peugeot e208 I saw. Though it's £13k which is quite a bit more than I wanted to spend
Mate of mine has had a Tesla on a work lease but now waiting for delivery of a BYD Seal as he didn't want the Musk association. The BYD Seal seems to have decent reviews and is a lot cheaper on the work lease scheme than the Tesla so will be interesting to see how he gets on with it.Yep, I suspect there’s a lot of people who can’t wait for their PCP/lease agreements to end.
Student activists, threatening just that, in the States...I know others who have Teslas who are feeling quite uncomfortable with it now, or at the very least a bit edgy that they'll come back to where they parked it one day to find somebody has sprayed the 2025 equivalent of COCK PISS PARTRIDGE on the side.
The problem is that once you have refused to buy anything from either Elon Musk or from China. there might not be much left worth having. China is a big player in electric cars and loads of other electrical stuff, as well as the cheap goods that are rather easier to avoid. It's less the money for me as i'm buying second hand.

Well. I'm not boycotting China. I'm just refusing to own a tesla or be shot into space on one of his exploding rocketsThe problem is that once you have refused to buy anything from either Elon Musk or from China. there might not be much left worth having.
