More often than not I'd go for El Abd because of his end of season form. However I think it would depend on the opposition quite a lot. If we need someone who's going to deal with the physicality of some teams, play Adam - if we need someone to deal with particularly lanky strikers, pick Dunk. If you're not sure, back El Abd.

Why is that when Dunk isnt as good as El Abd at heading the ball away or at stopping players getting a clear header.

Nope. For league games, he chooses El-Abd ahead of Dunk.

He doesn't fanny about with your analysis.

What utter tosh. And you run an Albion radio show? Thank f*** I've never tuned in. Fanny about with my analysis he already has. Can't remember the precise game but I do remember him saying a shit away pitch we played on prompted him to play El Abd in a certain game ahead of Dunk who was in possession of the shirt and had just received a man of the match. Got nothing to do with league/cup games.

Both had a fantastic season but for me Dunk edges it, he plays the ball out so well which suits the Gus style of play, funny I would say he is better in the air than Adam too.

The difference between the two is Adam loves a battle and is probably a more determinded player.

I've said before on here I wouldn't mind seeing us play Dunk, El-Abd and Greer in the side and push the full backs on more to make them wing backs.

El-Abd for me solid and looks assured from crosses not to mention countless blocks in every game.

At the moment I think he is the better/solid option and will get the nod this season. Long term I think dunk will end up being the better player

Sorry not voting! Surely it may depends on what strikers they are facing, pitch conditions, shape of the team, fitness and probably plenty more things Gus has to weigh up before making his selection. I would imagine if it we was facing Jason Roberts then AEA would get the nod and if it was Nathan Tyson then Dunk would play. Not as simple as just choosing one or the other now...... But do carry on!!!

Well last season when fit it was pretty much always El Abd.

El Abd is FAR better aerially than Dunk, to counter another comment made as well.

You could be right, but having that extra bit of height can help a lot especially when defending a set piece. I wasn't making myself too clear, but I wouldn't say Dunk is hugely worse than El Abd, rather a different type of defender.

To be honest Greer runs the CB show, without him we'd be in bad shape. I wouldn't fancy El Ebd and Dunk as a partnership at all.

I must admit I am suprised by the 4 to 1 vote in favour of El-Abd, not suprised he came out on top, but a little by the margin.

For me I would still go with Dunk, for the football we are trying to play he suits it best.

He is despite what some people think a far superior passer of the ball and will only get better with games defensively.

No, it's you who's talking tosh. El-Abd is ahead of Dunk in the pecking order. Gus doesn't consider the opposition when choosing his defenders to the same extent of choosing which defenders are fit and ready to play. El-Abd can do every job Dunk can do, but Dunk doesn't do the reverse. Yet.

If you think a radio show's quality is based on only damning a non-existent scenario, you might want to re-consider things a bit.

So it would seem 80% of Albion fans have no idea what they are watching then ;-)

Be interesting to see who Gus goes for on the big kick off

Utter bollocks, as per. ;-)

Gus Poyet: "Adam El Abd is the best defender at the club, no question."

Dunk WILL be a very good Championship defender in time, I am confident of that. But he is nowhere near Adam's imperious standards just yet.

I'm confused why you would think for a single second it won't be Greer and El Abd? That's the first team centre back pairing.
