Went to school with Dunk and he is a top defender, especially for his age. But I feel a little more solid with El-Abd, winds strikers up, he's solid, and reads the game better. Can't wait to see Elphick play nest season though.

I'd start with El Abd but it's good that we've got quality in Dunk & Elph as back up.

I would almost be inclined to play Dunk at home and El-Abd away...

Chopping and changing at the back is not a good idea in general however.

I love El Abd as much as the next person for his passion and his guts but he does worry me sometime for the same reasons.

When up against the better teams and players he does look as though he is having to play to the max of his ability and concentration just to keep up with the game.

Think Dunk has looked a lot more composed when he has played well he is just inconsistent with age.

Think El Abd will start the season but then Dunk may well take over as the season progresses.

Not a bad thing to have this sort of competition.

The crowd have spoken, and it's comfortably El Abd.

No contest Dunk has a long way to go before he is as good and reliable as either El Abd or Greer hopefully he will progress and will one day be their equal, while still with us.

We're also 99.9% sure that Gus will start El Abd, as he pretty much always starts when fit. Also, saying that Dunk is a much better footballer is a ridiculous statement.

El Abd has consistently been a FANTASTIC Championship centre back, dealing comfortably with some of the best strikers we've seen playing the Albion in the last decade. Dunk has had a few games in and out, looked impressive in some, naive in others.

This for me too.

El-Abd by a street.

Both are excellent, I never have a moment's worry when El-Abd is on the ball. However, Dunk has still yet to master when to pile in and when to hold back. Similarly, it's not always that obvious, but Dunk's positioning, especially as set-pieces has been suspect.

Sorry not voting! Surely it may depends on what strikers they are facing, pitch conditions, shape of the team, fitness and probably plenty more things Gus has to weigh up before making his selection. I would imagine if it we was facing Jason Roberts then AEA would get the nod and if it was Nathan Tyson then Dunk would play. Not as simple as just choosing one or the other now...... But do carry on!!!

That's not the case at all.

Its El-Abd for me. He's stronger, reads the game better and fearless. Dunk is good and should develope through time.

If Dunk spent an entire summer doing nothing but vigourously nodding, balancing 3 dictionaries on his head and turning his bonce suddenly in alarm repeatedly, then i would think his neck may grow strong enough to really head a ball away. With that, i'd think him not far away from a starting place. At the minute, it's El-Abd, though. Certainly our most comical Egyptian defender and madly heroic with it.

That is my view. Also he is rather suspect at times playing the ball out and putting other players under pressure but he will learn hopefully.

So many imponderables including Dunk's availability but pre-season form and the shape of the team, governed in part perhaps by who we end up signing, mean I wouldn't want to call it just yet. Let's see what happens over the next six weeks or so before pontificating on whether Gus makes the right choice or not
