It’s getting national attention. I applaud them

Absolutely. World leaders are not doing enough and those who profit from fossil fuel are actively trying to halt progress.

We will loathe ourselves for not demanding more. Protesting more. Holding politicians and oil companies to account. Why didn’t we riot? Kick down doors?

People whinging because the motor way is blocked for a couple of hours. They have no idea the “inconvenience” coming their way.
Delivery drivers esp lorry drivers know what inconvenience these c&%#s cause when blocking the motorways.

I’m sure. Imagine what they’ll make of the floods and other extreme weather headed our ways. Motorways in Sussex have already been closed this week due to flooding. It will only get worse.

True but we get by with that, watching some car drivers trying to navigate a bit of flooding is amazing. I can live with that, but these idiots who have to drive to a motorway and bring it to a standstill just to protest about oil shouldbe locked up. I would hsve some sympathy with them if they glue themself to the gates of Downing Street,

Everywhere I go I see more and more wind farms and solar panels. More homes are better insulated. Are we not making any progress ? What should be done immediately .

Please this is a sensible question.. I remember as a teenager when whole of Hove Lagoon was flooded and we played on beech huts that had gone over the top, Remember could not get back on A27 from Eastbourne because a lot of A27 was flooded and of course in 80s the great hurricane. None of these have happened since. Were these caused by global warning.

Any developed economy failing to act seriously is effectively an accessory to a genocide on the world's poor. A group of people who have little defence to what is coming and contributed nothing to the problem. Was there anything serious in the chancellors statement today?

Democracies have a choice whether to look the other way.

No, you completely misunderstand. If you have £300 in your pocket and you spend it on a new TV, then you cannot spend that £300 on other people. It is mutually exclusive.

You might be giving £100,000 to charity and spending £300 on a TV, but that's because you have made a personal decision not to give £100,300 to charity. But to go back to the original point I was answering, if any of us spend £300 on a TV it's because we have made a decision that we prefer to buy a new TV with that £300 than to give it to charity. It wasn't a criticism, just a statement of fact.
Yes, I did understand. You said “if any of us have a choice between buying something new or giving that money to help save lives, then we value the new possession more”

Your remark is presumptuous about other people’s behaviour- you can’t possibly know what everyone would do in any given situation and quite honestly, if someone came up to me in a tv shop and said the money you are about to spend will save a life/lives, I would obviously opt to save a life. It’s obvious to me. Your example of a TV is not a good one to throw back at me tbh - I don’t own a TV, haven’t over 25 years - waste of space and money - my choice - means instead of spending money on licence fees, I have extra income that allows me to make regular payments to charity. So what would another example be? Where would we draw the line at essentials and non-essentials as surely that would influence the answer in your scenario?

The point is that you can only speak for yourself - not everyone puts a higher value on material (luxury) possessions than a life. I honestly am not that materialistic anyway.
I don’t drive a car, have lights on if Im not in a room, buy clothes from charity shops etc etc and I offer my free time to work for a conservation charity and donate by DD several charities …
All my choices (ones which may put me in. minority) and which I certainly don’t presume others should do by any means but please don’t make presumptions about the value judgements of others. Not a criticism- just saying!🙂

I probably value all forms of art above any material possession and happen to think it essential to maintain our humanity and therefore humanitarian outlook - but Oscar Wilde said ‘all art is quite useless!’ So who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wasn't "throwing anything at you". The first sentence you quoted was part of a reply and the sense of it (maybe I could have made it clearer) was that if we spend money on a new possession, then it is because we have chosen to spend that money on that possession over the good the money could have done if we had given it to charity.

those were weather events, not climate change. the difference depend's what point you want to make.

and we're making a great deal of progress with more renewables, more nuclear too. insulation seems a popular cause too, as far as i can tell the low hanging cheap options have been done and increasingly expensive, disruptive options are needed.

Im more concerned with what Putin might do in the next few weeks or months, compared to something that might happen many years from now.

The argument is about so callwd eco protestors who sit in the middle of a motiorway blocking it up and stopping possibly me getting home that night or even a weekend with my family and spending the night at the sides of the road sleeping in my truck when i dont need to. Dont take it out on the people who use the roads, take it out on the politicians. Im all for the right to protest but there is a time and place to do it, its not on a motorway...

Your second paragraph, I sympathise with and agree to a point. Your first paragraph. It’s not happening “many years from now”. It is happening now.

But yes. I’m not sure I agree with motorway protests.

If you look on their website, they announce which roads they are going to protest on, so you can plan your journey accordingly. Yes, the side roads to a motorway will also be slow, but at least they are honest about where they'll be.
They don't sit on a motorway. they usually climb a bridge or some other structure so the police will close the motorway for safety.

Some commuters never got to work, the knock on effect is, important surgery not done, patients missing out, ambulances not being able to attend emergencies because I stuck behind traffic held up by these so called eco warriors.

Yes i understand to a point about something needs to happen, my gripe is that these people who block roads are not doing themselves any favours with the general public. They want us to stop oil, yet travel to a motorway by vehicle to protest against using a car. They glue themselves to the roads using oil based glue, in there oil based clothing. Thats up to them but really to make a protest stand out, glue themselves to the gates of Downing Street or other parliamentary offices, or glue themselves to the local MP.

Our greatest threat to the end of our planet is Putin, this is my main concern the moment, and how my mother and father they're going to keep warm during the winter months once that is sorted then turn my attention climate change.

They were sitting on the motorways to start with. If they climb a gantry on a motorway to protest, the motorway should not been closed.

wasnt meant at you individually, the collective. historical extremes of weather are discounted, even when they happened quite regularly. every variation of weather in present is an abnormal event. climate and weather blurred and inverted to suit. example, Lewes gets flooded more often but lower levels when does, is this down to climate induced weather extremes or other changes?
