I don't agree with everything that Just Stop Oil does, but I can confirm that Di Bligh (one of the women who spray painted the grave) is definitely NOT a nutter. She lives in the same village as me (in fact, she has an allotment next to mine!). She is a passionate climate campaigner, and genuinely VERY fearful for the future for our kids and grandkids. Somehow we need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels - unfortunately as a planet we seem hell bent on self-destruction. And the worse it gets, the more damage we seem to want to do....
Quite. I think Di Bligh would be more interesting conversation than a random RIP thread from the your respondee. Chalk paint is easy to remove and the world wasn't stopped from its business either. They've accomplished their purpose, it's reached NSC...

I'm guessing that a headline of 'some chalk put on stone, then washed off again' wouldn't get their target audience INFURIATED :dunce:
I see the same sorts who are carrying on about a bit of chalk are the same people denying that tractors blocked ambulances but insisting that the current chancellor has tanked the economy.

Fancy that

(Personally I think that nobody should be blocking ambulances and that much of the just stop oil wing of the climate change protesting is as counter productive and annoying as the tractor yobs with their union flags. However, we all seem to have already taken sides in these culture wars.

The irony is that the chancellor is reaching out to China (business deals) which is the only way to get traction with them and others who are polluting the planet, and people are squawking at her about it, and saying she should be back here, presumably in the kitchen making everyone a cup of tea. Grown up politics, anyone? ???)

I'm sure that RR will have a deep and lasting impact upon the leaders of China.

I wonder how long it took her to cycle all the way from down there, she must've been freezing too.
At the very least I hope she car shared?

The Thai Barn was always a nice place to go to eat when I lived in Westbury a few years back.
Is it still going?
Oh and one of the Princes popped into a local pub down that way a couple of times too.

Being pedantic it seems they held them up for a little while whilst they tried to get out of the way.
None of them made a conscious effort to not move.

But I'm aware this is just one example and that any delay could have life or death consequences
and so both sets of protesters didn't really do themselves any favours, in my opinion.

The tractors were clearly not blocking the ambulance any more than normal traffic would be blocking an ambulance. They were in a single line trying to get round that bus, just like a line of vans could be described as blocking an ambulance. Once the traffic started moving again, the ambulance got through.

Did the eco-protestors deliberately hold up ambulances then?
They had to be dragged off the road when there might've been ambulances held up. I have no idea if there were or not.
But they decided they would hold up each and every vehicle on the road letting none pass.

I

....and others.

The tractors were on a route approved by the Police as are many demos that take place. That is how the freedom to protest works in our democracy. Furthermore, as has been pointed out by other posters on here, the tractors immediately moved out of the way as any other road user would.

When JSO have blocked roads neither of the above have applied.

Defend JSO protestors by all means as their cause is an exceptionally serious one but having a go at farmers in order to do so makes no sense.

I'm not having a go at farmers.

You asked "Did tractors block ambulances? Never heard that. Could you post a link to this please?"

I posted some links.

There were then comments (not from you) along the lines of the eco protesters holding up ambulances, possibly deliberately. And that article shows that it was a bit of a myth.

It’s good sport to demand that every JSO supporter has to cycle everywhere. In this case, as I know Di, I can confirm she goes pretty much everywhere by public transport. She was in southern Spain recently for a holiday and went by train.

I get their frustration, I do. But it’s silly and won’t achieve anything least of all their aims. Nothing can prevent climate change unless we all die basically.

Very good to hear.
If anyone is going to pontificate then they need to be putting some of their money where their mouth is. Fair play to her.

Surely the tractor drivers are no more to blame than you are yourself? Unless you're a non-driver, you have certainly been part of a traffic jam that has held up an ambulance. I have myself, numerous times. Unless you keep off the roads altogether, you can't help it.

Just out of interest, does she agree that desecration of graves - even theoretically those of her own ancestors - is a fair and proportionate response to whatever problems anyone sees as important?

Did the eco-protestors deliberately hold up ambulances then?
In both cases it was inevitable and the possibility undeniable, so they are identical really I would have thought.
