Apart from on immigration do those who voted UKIP actually know any of the parties others policies?

No party has a set of policies that I would entirely agree with, so you pick the points that you feel are the most important, I feel membership or not of the EU is a major issue which affects all others, I am not even certain I want us to come out but I do want to hear the argument, and all the others keep putting it off.
Who got your vote and which policies were the ones that swayed you?

The Greens have got bored with waiting at Newcastle-under-Lyme, and have cracked the guitar out.

I did not vote yesterday, I am a life long Tory who has realised since becoming disabled how their policies have damaged the poor and the sick for decades. I now see myself as Liberal, sadly right now the Liberal Party have become Tories so right now for me there is no true place for my vote.
My worry is so many people who voted UKIP did it for one reason, the immigration issue and I wonder if that will be the main issue they deal with week in week out in council chambers across the country or is it going to be reducing the tax burden on the rich and reducing the welfare coverage for the poor and needy.
Voting for UKIP to hear their arguments on immigration is one thing but the result is over 100 new council seats across the country making decisions on everything but immigration!

No, all we need and will probably now get, is each of the main party's to include an early referendum in their manifesto's, and preferably to state what is their preferred outcome. None of them had any sort of environmental policy until the Greens made a good showing. And give the racist nonsense a rest would you please?

What racist nonsense?

Ukip has gained three seats from Labour in Plymouth.

If Labour loses one more seat there will be no overall control of the council.

And the Press Association says Labour has lost control of North East Lincolnshire, after Ukip won five seats.

With Labour losing four seats and the Conservatives one, the council is left under no overall control. The new line up is Labour 21, Conservative 10, Ukip 8 and Liberal Democrats 3.

Labour are set to win in Bradford, where they have gained three seats and lost one to Ukip putting them on course to take control from NOC with six wards still to declare

This whole thing has highlighted just how insignificant Lib Dem have become.

Ukip won 10 of the 13 seats up for election on Great Yarmouth, which has gone from Labour to no overall control.

BBC North West Political Editor Arif Ansari tweets: The Lib Dems have lost all 6 seats they were defending in Liverpool. And have conceded all 9 in Manchester.

Sigh ...... yes thank you. You seem to have skipped the main policy though for some reason - the main reason I voted for them.

But you do realise that your vote is for all of their policies, not just the one you feel strongly about. What a stupid thing to say. You agree with them on cutting taxes for the rich, and destroying the NHS? You really support that?

That's funny. I'm sure I asked Westdene to set out their other poliicies and how they would pay for them and he didn't reply.

The fact is they can't accurately budget for their policies. The fact is that a partly privatised NHS would attempt to cut costs even further only we'd be slowly drying up the supply of cheap labour that keeps the current system going. If UKIP got in to power for real we'd soon see who really fancies doing nursing auxiliary and cleaning jobs in hospitals for minimum wage. UKIP would be an enormous race to the bottom, a faster and deeper race to the bottom than under dish face Dave. Perhaps that's what the other parties should concentrate on pointing out now?

Years of false promises of a referendum coming back to haunt the career politicians ... democracy sometimes does work

So this great Ukip upsurge - cost Labour one council? :O

Shall we take a look at how many councils Labour have taken control of?

Crawley
Merton
Redbridge
Cambridge
Croydon
Hammersmith & Fulham
Amber Valley

I'll take being Comical Ali any day over you George Dubya :)

And although Thurrock is a shame, the parlia candidate there is a fantastic ex-Sussex Uni lady who enjoyed her time in Brighton very much - underestimate her in 2015 at your peril.

My goodness, the spin is strong in this one.

This whole thing has highlighted just how insignificant Lib Dem have become.

And yet they still run councils and have (at time of posting) more than twice as many councillors as UKIP elected by yesterday's vote.

Paradoxically the election where they will return the most seats is probably the one where they will have the least influence on their stated aim.
