I can never understand the mentality of leaving early.

For some people, shock horror, football is NOT their life. I always leave around 90 minute mark to catch a train at Falmer to get to Lewes and then onto Crowborough to pick him my son.

Does that mean I'm a 'bad' fan for leaving earlier? Nope

Does that mean that I might miss a goal from leaving early? Maybe, possibly, few times a season.I can live with that, not the end of the world.

Some things are more important to me than football, plus people with younger children or people whose mobility isn't great leave earlier to beat the crowds. I'm fine with that. So should others who get their knickers in SUCH a twist when people leave early.

I sit central in the Upper West and really struggle with the leaving early of a young boy aged about 8 who sits in our row. Regardless of game situation he is promptly matched out by what looks like dad or grandad with about 10 mins to go. It looked like grandad today and he chose to leave just after Maupay scored the penalty. The early departure applies to 3pm games as well as 07.45 midweek so can't be a school next day thing.

Our whole row scratches it's head as we stand up to let them go past.

I’ll play! Firstly, 90mins isn’t really early, think the OP meant those left on eg 75th (and plenty did). Secondly, do you do this every match I.e. never stay if a particularly good game, still in the balance or say outcome of our season relies upon? Thirdly, are you always restricted by you sons collection time and if so, what happens if you’re 20 minutes etc ‘late’? Fourthly, and in all honesty, are you just generally a person who’s impatient about time I.e. always has one eye on what’s next rather than being in the moment so’s to speak.

To be fair to those who left early it was the Halloween edition of Strictly last night so I can understand why they would want to get home promptly.

As someone who lives far away there are disadvantages in staying to the final whistle. Getting soaked waiting for the train is a ball ache when there’s a long journey ahead (is it feasible to have some form of cover in the walkway to the platform?) when you’re going to be stewing for a few hours. Arrived at Euston to find lots of cancellations.

Gambled on a slow train to Crewe as it was only one going. Full of pissed up Stoke fans miserable after Millwall defeat and one crazy mother****er from Wrexham who was walking from carriage to carriage asking everyone if they were Chester fans as he wanted to ‘take them on now, don’t care if there are people watching and filming, hates Chester’ following defeat to Dagenham.

Starting to dry out when train got to Nuneaton and we were told to get off by the driver as no trains going North due to flooding. No one from Virgin on the platform so had to tweet customer relations for advice. Half an hour later they replied to take a taxi and no rail replacement buses available. Hundreds of people then ran to taxi rank, who were surge pricing with glee inside.

Negotiated a £130 ride to Crewe with another crazy mother****er who had a cavalier approach to the roads as well as rail track being under water in places.

Arrived in Crewe to see loads of police at the station as the locals who were crawling out of the pubs were kicking off that there were no trains. Soaked again getting to car and drove home, arriving past midnight.

A 3-2 victory in the 94th minute though....priceless.

Not so sure I agree about the cinema. On Thursday I left half way through the new Terminator film - absolute pants.

I cant decide if thats dedication or lunacy, both probably.

I can understand some leaving early. The core of the issue is the trains.

I will always try to avoid them and thereby the need to leave early.

Forget the early leavers - what a out the never joiners. Loads of empty seats from what I could see - unless the club shop have released a new jumper made out of the seating material.

It's your call and not judging but don't you feel absolutely gutted to have paid to have gone to a match and missed 2 brilliant moments (and the moments that made the whole thing worthwhile) in order to get home early? Again, entirely up to you but I can't compute in my mind why some people would do that with the game in balance if there isn't a good reason to do so.

I will not criticise any one, people can do what they like. for me going to the football is all about the crazy roller coast feelings and yesterday’s 94th min winner was one of the best.

I managed to watch the whole 90 minutes plus as I always do home and away. Stopped for a drink after the game and caught the last bus to mill road, no queue and got dropped off right by my van, thanks driver. Was the only vehicle left on Mill Road so straight out st the roundabout, excellent day

Chatting with people who’ve missed such moments, they’re genuinely not bothered. The same of those who’ve missed all the goals before and after half time at The Amex because they’re boozing on the concourse. When they return to the NS 55 minutes into a game, they’re genuinely jokey about it, not fussed in the slightest.

Different priorities from people on NSC. Not wanting to get home an hour later, or loving the craic of boozing with mates.

I've missed a few goals before half time and just after. We take it in turn to buy beers at half time so once every few weeks I have to leave my seat early to get the beers in on the concourse. I then get to meet lots of friends and the chat can go on for longer than the half time break. For me going to the Amex is more than just the football but a chance to catch up with mates I don't get to see very often.

I can never understand the mentality of leaving early. A season ticket is not cheap, neither is an individual ticket on a one of match. Would those same people leave a cinema 5 - 10mins before the end of the film, I dont think so. Just so they are on the first bus out. If time is precious to those people then footies not the ideal thing for them.

I have said 1000 times, I will leave when I want.

Yesterday was particularly problematic as I can barely walk at the moment due to my carelessness a week ago, and have injuries that get more painful if I have to sit in a car for long periods (as I discovered when I got home last night - ouch!) but we did hang on in W Upper till 87 minutes.

Neverthless, just as I like VAR, I never cry over missed goals. It was 2-2 when we left and when I found we had won I was absolutely made up - pure joy. No regrets. Life is good.
