Best album. I’m sure everyone has their own favourite ..Album not band member !

Mine is - seven & the ragged tiger .

Duran Duran this year are celebrating 40 years as a band ! . In the USA they are generally considered a cooler version of the Rolling Stones which is why they tend to tour so much there.

Not so sure they are cooler than the Rolling stones in USA. The reason they tour there so much is because of the money.

Having said that, my favourite albums are the first two, then they went into decline from "7 and the ragged tiger" to "Big Thing". "Liberty" was poor. Then they pulled something out of the fire with the "Wedding Album" which provided Come Undone and then inexplicably they did a covers album - which was atrocious. Clearly, they had lost the plot, because the next two albums were exceptionally poor as well - "Meddazzaland" (which wasn't even released in the UK) and "Pop Trash".

Then the reunion. "Astronaut" wasn't great -but did have the hit Reach up for the Sunshine. "Red Carpet Massacre" was terrible. But, surprisingly they released "All you need is now" and lastly "Paper Gods" , both of which were excellent.

I think with Duran, it very much depends on who produces them. Mark Ronson, Nile Rodgers did the last two and they were very strong.

Very good live band.

It has never crossed my mind to even consider comparing the Stones to Duran Duran. Really?

Maybe I should listen more carefully as I don’t have any Duran Duran albums and always considered them a teeny bopper band

No comparison on any level with the Rolling Stones - except maybe the cocaine.

Not so sure about teeny label, they did so some very good albums - in my opinion the 1st two and the latest 2. If you want to check them out then Rio and All You Need is Now are the ones to listen to. The rest have either dated 80s production or are just plain terrible.

Newmarket.
Typically early Duran Duran.
Catchy, no substance.
Their cassette tapes were constantly loaded in my Maystar player in my Mk1 escort 1300 xl.

Very good live band.

Liberty is under-rated imo. Serious and My Antarctica, in particular, are both ace.

Rio is obviously their best album. Duran Duran the second imo. And, um, Arcadia' So Red The Rose the third.

Lots of great tracks since though.

Ridiculously writing them off as a teeny bopper band when they've always written (and often produced) their own stuff. Unfortunately they were too good looking for their own good. And it's not cool to like a band which 13yo girls like.

PS This is ace...

Never got into Liberty. But, yes Serious was great (with a young Tess daly in the video)

I've no idea, but this thread now means 'Greatest' will feature as part of my exercise bike workout soundtrack this afternoon. I think I'll even have to put the DVD of their videos on too, rather than the CD as I need the full 'do,do,do,do,do,do' finale of 'Rio' and the image of Simon Le Bon in a lime green suit on a yacht will raise my spirits as well.

There's been some great remixes of their stuff too, this is one of my faves. Bit of a noisy opening but has a wicked groove through it.

As he strolls around the top of the Eiffel Tower with a beret on listening to a walkman. :lolol:

Then right at the end the bomb he accidentally sets off from his walkman goes off.............but it's a postcode of the Eiffel Tower in a stand that blows up, not the real thing, so everything's alright.

You also never get to find out the answer to the question the model asks Nick Rhodes he was photographing, as he clutches his ears in agony and collapses of - 'Nick, what's wrong?' - it's always been one of life's great unsolved mysteries that incident and unanswered question.
