Dunk - Refusing to play?

Cannot understand why he's not playing. Stones is in the same situation with Everton (in fact, if anything, his move is more likely to happen than Dunk's) and yet he's still first choice centre back. I thing Hughton has made an error of judgement here. Dunk is without doubt our best CB.

Bloom has said and i think proven so far this window that squad improvements aren't dependent on selling players. And we would still need another proven Champ CB to replace Dunk, if he was sold, to play alongside Uwe, Greer, and Rea either for this season (an expensive season long loan ?), a veteran ex prem on a short contract (expensive) or if a permanent player then a 2-4 year contract and a decent fee. (expensive)

I would think we will have a Matthew Upson type joining us on loan for a season and a wage share ala Bridge, Ward, Upson, Bennett etc

Surely it's 1 of 3 things;

1) The club know that they will sell him. So the want to play Greer/Uwe to form a partnership.
2) Dunk has refused to play as has been suggested
3) Hughton feels that Greer and Uwe are a better option.

Blame Hughton even though you have precisely 0 facts or understanding of what is going on? Great work

Maybe Dunk and his agent is waiting to see how the Stones deal pans out as Chelsea seem very keen on him ergo a better offer may come from Everton

Just par for the course with quite a few of the empty vessels on here.

You're missing an obvious fourth:

4) Hughton has assessed that Dunk's focus may be compromised by all the rumour and speculation so has taken him out of the firing line for now.

Dunk is clearly an excellent Championship level centre half. He's young, English, good on the ball and scores goal. Last season his stats showed that he is in the top 3 for his position and improving all the time. He is far from a "steady" defender.

Wasn't the second half of last season.

I think steady championship defender is about right at this moment in time.

5) We're hoping that if we hide him away, Fulham and everyone else will FORGET about him

Very good point, I heard a rumour like that at the weekend and Everton going to £6m.

Everton has been mentioned before and would pay better wages I would have thought. At some point Chelsea will meet the valuation of Stones, they are pretty close in my view

FWIW, I think Everton would be an excellent move for Dunk - right level, and a manager who will allow him to play football, rather than shout at him when he takes a touch rather than HOOF it.

I agree with you. And wouldn't this go down well wearing an Everton shirt:

I would doubt that Dunk has refused to play judging by how pissed off he looked after being seconds away from coming on against Fulham and then told he wasn't. Surely if he has refused to play he wouldn't a) be in the squad at all, and b) about to come on in the Fulham game.

I think Houghton was right to leave him out on Saturday, it can't be easy to have an offer for your wages to be trebled (reportedly) and then have to play against that team. Also, no reason to change the back 4 after Saturday so makes sense to leave him on the bench.

From the other thread

Quite a few people in this thread should be having a long look at themselves now.

Genuine question, but wasn't it the Southend game that was the game he allegedly refused to play?

I've not seen anywhere (granted i've skim read most threads at most) that he refused to play against Fulham.
