Can’t blame him for quitting, that is one of the worst eye close ups I’ve seen.

Really? Without getting into a generational thing here but no way boxers 30 & 40 years ago quit in those circumstances. Typical, soft millennial, probably wanted to catch the end of love island or check out his twitter feed. Soft as shite.

Joe Joyce is very limited but a real pest, those jabs he throws must be very heavy.

That didn't look good from Dubois taking a knee, he basically quit. No matter how bad your eye is you don't take a knee like that in a fight on that magnitude. Would question if he has the heart for the top level.

Ol' Blanche couldn't see anything coming from his left eye. Not surprised he stayed down, could've got seriously hurt. On the plus side, 3 rounds out with my prediction but £42 up with my bet.

Sad ending and surprised he did that. Only had one good eye but that’s enough for the big champions.

Exactly. Eye injuries are a part of boxing.

Sugar Ray Leonard vs Tommy Hearns. Leonard with one eye, knocked down and behind on points, rally’s to win in the 14th.

Ali fought with a dislocated jaw in the first round.

Danny Williams won with a dislocated shoulder.

Other fighters have come from behind after multiple concussive knockdowns to win.

To effectively quit by Dubois is poor and a major sign of weakness.

This fight reminded of me of the Benn v Watson fight from years ago. The big puncher who can not land against a good defensive boxer who keeps popping out that jab.
I know Dubois is young, but I dont think he is going to be the next Lewis or Tyson as the next possible champion of the world.

Super pleased with that. Dubois has shown he just hasn’t got the minerals to be a contender. Once you’ve quit like that once it’s always there with you and any decent opponent will know where he’ll go if in deep water. Also thought Frank Warren was a disgrace in the post fight interview. Could barely give Joe any credit at all. He’ll pay for that too as Joe will be leaving Queensbury for Matchroom ASAP imo.

You could see Frank was gutted and he's a bitter old man. He genuinely thought that Dubois was going to be the next big thing and has now lost his cash cow.

Cant wait to watch the next Sam Jones Interview he's going to rub it in big time!

As annoying as Sam Jones is I’m pleased for him too, he knows his boxing and seems to really give his all for Joe. The fight unfolded exactly like he said it would.

Boxing being my main sport, thought that was quality from both men but especially Joyce. I had him 3 up before the KO not sure what talksport and BT were seeing, the jab is truly the most dangerous punch in the game. Dubois is 23 he'll come again, thought he did okay but just came up against a more experienced better fighter. Don't fancy Joyce against Usyk but if they do fight for the WBO should Joshua drop it, it'll be a fascinating tactical battle. I think Joyce beats Wilder, Pulev, Whyte, Povetkin, Hunter and Ruiz because styles make fights but would side with Joshua, Fury, Parker, Usyk and Hrgovic. His style is simple but supremely effective. The division is the best it's been since the 90s.

Dubois’s trainer whispered in his ear in between the last couple of rounds.
You can take an educated guess on what he told him to do, given what was to come.
Dubois obviously came up short. Joyce only needed to do one thing well and it was enough to destroy him.
Dubois wasn’t going to win.
It was the right call to take a knee given his stage of career.
Why go for broke, and risk his sight? He can come again when he’s improved.

That suggests though that Dubois has the mentality of a chess player not a fighter. In the heat of battle you don’t think years ahead, you do anything you can to win or survive.

To take a delayed knee from a jab, suggests he didn’t fancy it.

At least have one final hurrah or make it to the end of the round and let your corner make a decision.

I think his actions reflect badly on him and to give up your belts like that, leave a bad taste.

It wasn’t even as though he was taking a hiding, he was ahead on all three scorecards. Trying to survive and protect the eye may well have been enough.

.

I disagree with that. If the fight had carried on, Dubois would have got battered and risked even more injury to his broken eye socket. It wouldn’t have gone the distance. Joyce knew it, Dubois (obviously) knew it.
The fact is Dubois was put in with an experienced, resilient campaigner too soon. His corner probably realised that during the fight. You can be fairly sure Dubois packed it in under orders or at least advice from his corner.
I don’t think it necessarily means he’d pull out again.
Also , it’s easy for us to say “he quit, he should have carried on”. Many a punch drunk, broke ex pro has taken that attitude.
It’s all good for us British fight fans - Joyce will get a shot before he’s past it, Dubois will have time to regroup and have another go. Him quitting last night, hopefully safeguards his future

I’d argue that surviving against Joyce whilst not easy, is more than possible IVO Joyce’s limited offensive arsenal. He barely threw anything other than a stiff jab all night. No combinations and no punch variety.

Protect the eye, maintain a distance and clinch when up close. Spoiling tactics could have got him through that in my opinion.

Fair enough, we will never know for sure and Dubois was indeed up on two of the cards (one of them by eight rounds which was laughable). The other two were close.
Worth noting that Joyce said afterwards he stuck with the jab all night because it was working - not because it’s all he had. The more Dubois’s eye closed the more Joyce would have opened up.
Dubois was gone by the end imho. His aggressiveness hadn’t worked, it had also tired him out, his eye was closed, his face was busted up. He didn’t have the experience to lean on. His corner seemed to have lost confidence in him. Joyce looked primed to take him out. .....the tactics you suggest may have worked, if he had it in him at that point. But he didn’t. He was getting knocked out.

That’s a very reasonable argument and whilst I disagree, interesting to hear your view on this.

Agree with the 8 round scorecard to Dubois, that’s shockingly bad.
