I got mates in NYC and I think the place rocks, but it does help when somebody is in the know.

NYC is cold this time of year.

Can you get a beer in Dubai?

Haven't been to Dubai but New York is like nowhere else on earth, one of my favourite places. A must if you haven't been.

I love the Middle East, but Dubai isn't it. It is being developed into an Arabian Fantasyland. Far better check Oman before it loses its character completely. Sadly more adventureous places are off limits at the moment.

With NYC you either love or you hate it. I love it but I have friends in the City which always helps. It is totally unlike anywhere else in the US, and if you havn't been there I suggest you go. Each district has its own unique charms, I would start in the East Village, not unlike the North Laines in part. It is also a great City to drink and Party in.

NYC Wins on this one.

East Village  Stayed in an apartment in the East Village about five years ago and had an amazing time. Balcony over-looking the then WTC, short hop into town. Would love to go back, ace place.

Been to both, have to say that like so many things, it depends what you're looking for.

Even though it's much more westernised than the rest of the middle east, Dubai still has a culture-shock element that you won't get in NYC. Also, should be hot but not unbearable at that time of year. The fish market, souks, boat ride on The Creek at night to look at all the new buildings - all are fascinating. Only in Dubai can they build a new office block with a hole smack in the middle, just to prove that they can afford it. Climbing a sand dune is more challenging than it sounds, too, and the racing is on at that time if you want some sport - camel racing too, probably.

New York is an assault on the senses too, just in a different way. It's in your face from the moment you wake up, so busy, so alive. Also, which makes it completely different to most other American cities - SFran excepted - you can walk around it if you're reasonably fit.

Difficult choice - I'd probably go NY, even though was there as recently as October. Left after a week feeling I hadn't even scratched the surface.

That said, Dubai also has the Wild Wadi Water Park. Anyone here been down the Jumeirah Sceirah? I don't go that fast on the motorway....

Surely no comparison.

Dubai - fascinating

New York - another American city

Good God!! NY is nothing like most other American cities - I've never been to Dubai so can't comment on it but I'd be back to NY in a flash if I got a trip there....fantastic place!!

Don't come over to Dubai before mid January - the main man Sheikh Maktoum has popped his clogs and the country is in mourning for a week. All bars shut and entertainment cancelled.

was hoping to see big Norm's Palookaville tour tomorrow at the Dubai International Conference Centre but that has been postponed :( so you may see him in the stands at the Coventry match.

Absolutely. Walking round Manhattan is great fun, as is strolling round San Fran. Both are terrific places but very different.
