I have been given 2 free tickets to go to either Dubai or New York on February? I have never been to either. Where should I go?

Yep.

Did a fair bit of it by train over a month last summer.

Washington was good as was san fran, portland and seattle, however vegas, la, miami etc are just holes.

Would personally choose Dubai, a city being developed at a rapid pace, different culture (US isn't radically different from our own) and some mid-winter sunshine. Bit of a no brainer really.

Dubai, of course!

I can't believe you actually have to ask that question.

We had our honeymoon in Dubai - we went on a camel riding safari and barbeque thing that was awesome. They have some interesting sand dune bashing rituals over there!

Went to New York for Christmas in 95, it was blooming freezing, reckon the best time to go there would be either spring or autumn, no big city is nice in the summer months, they are usually hot, claustrophobic and smelly. Spent 4 months in Qatar in 2004, was a real eye-opener to the arabian way of life, have to say I loved it, Dubai is probably a few years ahead of that country in the development stakes so I reckon it would be more than worth the visit.

Dubai has stunning beaches. It's entertaining looking around their shops (esp. the raffle at the airport in which you can win a Ferrari- if you want to pay $250 for a ticket). The architecture and scale of development is mind blowing.

And I'd highly recommend going out into the desert for a bit of dune bashing in a Toyota Landcruiser (take your sea sickness pills though), followed by camel riding and dinner under the stars. You don't know what darkness really is until you're sat in the middle of the desert with no lighting around you.

Dubai is the most Westernised of all Arabic countries in any case.

You can drink there, although only really in hotels, and you need to be prepared to pay a fiver for a beer.

I liked it, though I don't imagine it to be the authentic Middle Eastern experience. Nice country though, very safe.

Would only call NY dull if it was cloudy in the middle of winter, I found it a fascinating place, if a little cold.

Good and bad points to both places. Personally, I would go back to Dubai and stay in the most expensive hotel I could afford!
