At least you've cut down + you haven't given up!

True, that's a positive, thanks. Think I've said every year for about twenty years "it's time to lose weight", so now's the time to deliver on that commitment!

How do you find it if your partner drinks? Went out with the bird last night and drank lime and soda and a couple of Becks blue, she was on the wine. Feels a bit odd being sober with someone drinking.

My partner's not a big drinker. She wouldn't sit at home and have a drink just for the hell of it - what I'd do most nights until recently. She would probably join me on a weekend evening, but I'd drink considerably more most of the time.

She does have a few pints most Wednesdays when she goes out to do a pub quiz. This leads to me oh-so-hilariously referring to her as an alchie when she comes home.

We've only been out together 2 or 3 times whilst I've been dry - she's had a couple of drinks whilst I've had lime and soda. The novelty of that was wearing thin last weekend, but there are worse things to have to deal with!

PPS: My non AF beer drinks are Coke Zero, Ginger Beer, and the ubiquitous Lime & Soda.
this bout of sobriety also means I've also gone back to drinking cups of tea in the evening.

I've not bothered trying a single AF drink yet - just not feeling the urge at all.

Like you though, I do have a mug of tea on quite a few evenings now when I never used to.

Bozza - do you find that time drags when you're not drinking and others are. That is my
experience and the reason I wouldn't bother going out just to drink soft drinks.

Matilda is absolutely wonderful - you're in for a real treat.

That is so good to hear. I have booked the day off work and we have a family day in London, followed by the 7pm show.

It cost me a fortune to get the seats I wanted for the children, but sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.

Gone 3 months without a drop as we're zero tolerance for alcohol while on board.
My next drink will be semi final day, God help me!

Tell me about it. I'm taking Mrs N and our 2 children, nine and seven, (that's their ages, not their names) to see Matilda on the West End in April. Booked seats at the front of the stalls and when I clicked 'buy' I thought I was going to have to re-mortgage the house.

What are their names? Eight and Six?

Oddly enough yesterday was Day 250 since i last had a drink.
I was shacked up in the Globe at one point with a bunch of mates, flares going off and some industrial boozing all around us.
I celebrated with 2 pints of lime and soda, a Coke Zero at Wembley, and when i came home a can of Nanny State with a late night snack.
Really don't miss it all.
For everyone else still considering it, or thinking about it, good luck. Keep at it.

Had a grand total of 4 pints all day. No headache today. Getting a little wiser with age, at last!

Not dry, but as hoped have significantly moderated my intake despite the distractions of long haul business trips (airport lounges, club class flights, socialising with staff etc). Biggest difference though is have more or less stopped drinking at home entirely. Lime and soda, low sugar ginger beer and the occasional AF beer (San Miguel or Peroni versions mostly) instead. Basically feels like I’ve kicked a red wine habit.........but can have the odd glass now without needing to empty a bottle

97 days down, and the triple digits are in sight!

The semi-final passed without any real temptation, although Papa Lazarou tried his hardest.

Two stone dropped now, another one and a bit to go to get to the weight I was when I was last able to run. I now intend to keep it going, and have my first drink at an airport hotel on the 23rd July as we head off on holiday. If my maths are right, that will see me making it just over the 200 day mark.

Good going Bozza. I pulled out of my 100 day challenge 2 weeks ago on Day 70. Needed to train for the Semi. Now have some work to do on moderation....

This has been such a strange time. I thought I'd have cravings and have a daily battle fighting the urge or reflex to have a drink. I just haven't. I've never said never again, but don't want a drink. Hadn't even thought about it really until I saw the drinking culture thread. 107 days (since Bozza is counting). No weight loss. Thank you biscuits!!

So I'm up to Day 300 (today i think ) Went the whole season without a beer, cider or well anything in the end.
And god knows if you can get through all of that without a pint then i think i'm well set up now to resist any temptation or craving.

Next step. A whole year. (hope everyone else is doing ok )

Day 142 for me now, and 34lbs lost in that time.

There's no doubt I'll make 200 days now - we head off on holiday shortly after so I'll be back on it then, for sure.

I've always enjoyed a drink and always will, but this dry spell has certainly changed me with regards to drinking out of habit and when I return to drinking, it will only be "event drinking" and not having a drink at home as a matter of course.

As my weight loss has now slowed down, as I knew it would, I've also started another streak - 20,000 or more steps per day, which I've managed for the last 30 consecutive days. Hitting that on some days is proving more difficult than not drinking!

Some impressive abstaining here guys.....well done. I carrying on as planned - no inclination at the moment to stop completely, but have significantly moderated since dry February. Weight still more or less unchanged (despite running upwards of 40 miles per week).

Without your dog you’d be knackered

My gap in drinking at the start of the year seems to have helped my moderation. For example, so far this month I had one glass of wine at an event and a pint watching the Cup final, other than that nothing! I think this is a healthy attitude to the booze, not cutting it out toally but have cut down dramatically.

This is where the danger returns. Once you start back on "event drinking" the definition of "event" can become looser over time. While that may mean weddings & birthdays initially, it can easily start becoming "meet an old mate at lunch" or "football". That's become something I've had to watch (and sometimes I've failed)
