Drinking tea also needs to be more sociable. Nobody ever asks to meet up for a tea, it's always a coffee.

Speaking as somebody who hates coffee, this is (slightly) annoying.

I'm not sure the hot drink police will bust your ass if you go along to such a social gathering and get a tea.

Grab a donut to go with it too.

Not tried, but the reviews say it's strong. Maybe the first cup of the day (I have Twinings strong breakfast tea 1st cup).

What tea do you like, just breakfast tea with milk, milder black tea without milk, green, white, yellow... ?

It's the way it's creeping further and further into my day that is curious. Lunchtime has been my tea cut-off, bar the off exception, for quite some time.

I can understand a cut-off for alcohol (Sun's over the yard-arm and all that) but for tea?

On the tea subject, I'd always found green tea quite unpleasant, but then went on holiday to Vietnam last year, and found the local variety to be pretty nice. They drink it sweetened, which made it more palatable.

I didn't try tea when I went out there, it never occurred to me for some reason. I had a lot of coffee - I think you said you don't like it, but it was quite different. The Vietnamese tend to have it with hot, condensed milk. Strong and sweet, quite weird, but I did enjoy it.

If I'm honest, I only drink Green tea when I'm trying to look like I'm healthy and I know shit. In reality it makes no sense to me

Starbucks 3pm almost every day: "Tall hot tea, English breakfast please" ... go to serving hatch ... "excuse me, could I have a tiny bit of 2% milk please?" ... win the fight for control of milk container ... retreat to outside table in the Californian sunshine ... chuck the tea bag out ... pure heaven in a waxed cup. Lose the fight for control of the milk jug ... misery ... sulk all afternoon and go home early for a proper cup of tea.

Such is my life.

That's if you make an individual mug of tea (forget the sugar).

Make the tea in a teapot, having warmed the pot first, and milk first in the mug/cup.
It does taste completely different.

Milk first, tea added = solution
Tea first, milk added = alkaloid.


I have to switch to decaf after 4pm now, or I can't sleep. Now, that's a sign of getting old.

Yep, I'm enjoying my tea more every since a Sri Lankan client bought me back a Dilmah 100 bag 10 variety selection. Instant coffee can do one!

This thread took longer than expected to get all noncey.

PG tips, mug (preferably chipped), milk, sugar, chimps & a piano, anything else is just Brightonians reverting to type.

I don't drink tea and think all hot drinks are pointless.

Having never drunk it or knew many people that did drink it when I was living in the South I was taken aback when I rolled up in Derbyshire at the amount of people that drank it and how much of it they drank; as it was so unprecedented for what I was used to I actually thought for a number of years that tea must be a 'Northern Thing'.

I've since learnt that you're all crazy back down there too

Biggest plus as a non-hot-drink-drinker = not being involved with the tea / coffee rounds at work

If I'm working somewhere with a kitchen or at home then I probably have between 6-10 cups a day. Missus BTF drinks similar amounts, I think it adds to our happiness!

I've recently learned something new about the brewing process, if you don't disturb the tea bag you get a much smoother and less bitter cup of tea. Don't stir it or dip the bag, you have to let it brew for at least 3 minutes and can't squeeze the bag at all when you take it out.

Anyone who puts milk in first is a MENTALIST, it means the leaves won't be hot enough to brew properly and release the flavour. Technically it's not even a cup of tea if you do that, it's a cup of lightly tea flavoured hot milk and water.

Which is why you should brew the tea in a teapot. Put the milk in the mug, then pour the tea in. I promise you'll notice an improvement in flavour.
