No player should not be out late night boozing during the season IMO. I know they are generally single young men, but they are also supposedly professional athletes paid big bucks for that privilege and with that comes responsibility.

There's a world of difference between....

- Being out on the town on a very regular basis, and
- Being spotted out on the town, when club rules permit them to "relax" a bit

The squad is clearly made up of blokes with very different personalities in very different stages of life. Whilst the likes of Bruno and Glenn Murray are family men who likely spend most evenings on the sofa in front of Netflix some of the younger squad members, and those who are single, will have different interests when they have nights off.

I'm only aware of one squad member who over-indulged when he shouldn't. It wasn't this season, but he was immediately dropped from the squad as a result.

I only said there seems to be a trio regularly spotted out on the town. I didn’t suggest anyone was over indulging, or out when they are supposed to be relaxing etc.

Freedom of information request from fans to club - how many senior players have recently been substantially fined for turning up to training still the worse for wear ? The answer would be very enlightening - and of course as customers paying to watch such highly paid players, none of our business

Just my opinion, but we are just that customers, not shareholders. There is a perception some have that we spend our hard earned therefore an entitlement to know stuff that is the club's and players business. Whilst I get this, as fans we choose to contribute to a system which pays the players wages. Hopefully the club is on top of this if there is an issue, and these quite wealthy young men sort their shit out supported if necessary. Gambling must be a huge concern too. I digress.

It's a fairly open secret who the trio are. One has been disciplined this season and presumably the club didn't publicly announce the sanction.

In Europe they can drink every day, responsibly, in small amounts and mostly with food.

In the Nordic countries you won't find them drinking mid-week, but they will get absolutely plastered on the weekend.

In the UK, we seem to have combined the two. We have a huge drinking culture - who out of all of us doesn't get pissed mid-week from time to time??

Strange thing is I drink quite often but hardly ever imbibe enough to get pissed especially mid-week unless on holiday. I usually have a very restful night of sleeping.

And possibly unrealistically high expectations, risk. Not all footballers can be role models though unfortunately. It intrigues me that cricket and rugby players mis behaviour seems to be percieved differently to footballers.

Where margins are so tight and you are up against top performing athletes week in and week out, alcohol doesn’t fit physically or mentally. Players are extremely well compensated to be dedicated to maintaining peak condition and forgo the pleasures us normal folk take for granted.

But players always have and always will.

I'm generally of the same opinion - you can make a personal choice whether to watch Albion games and spend your money in other ways if the behaviour of those you'd like to support isn't up to the standards you'd like.

However..... if you are spending your money on watching and supporting footballers who are behaving inappropriately, and you have no idea about it, then that has a connotation which bothers me a great deal. In general if players are fined for alcohol related issues and the club concerned keeps it quiet, the spectator is somehow not in possession of the full facts when abject performances need explanation. And I do accept that team sport isn't a precise science - the players you are watching may have a variety of impediments that are not obvious, from kids who don't sleep well at night, to minor injuries, coughs and colds, mental issues, travel fatigue or confidence issues with coaches and fellow players. I'd also like to think that in the "modern" game at the highest level, players who regularly drink a lot are far rarer than in the days when the likes of Tony Adams could be a serial winner.

I agree with this to a point. But when the club squeeze more and more money from the fans, and state it is for the player budget which Barber has done, then I can understand if some supporters expectations increase. For some this will mean knowledge that players are giving themselves the best chance in a game.

It's all Chinese whispers. I think the original rumours concerned a casino, which is gambling as opposed to excessive drinking.

Yes. And I think that all clubs should have a supporters representation at or near board level with this in mind. As they squeeze money from individuals at every opportunity to do so, the combined revenue this generates should be respected accordingly

I can certainly *guess* who the 3 are.

The club need to get on top of this and replace them all in the summer - whichever league we are.

It'll be an absolute disgrace if their boozing costs us our PL place.
