I guess at his age it could have been a heart attack?

Possible I guess, if his body totally stressed by the walk, heat, dehydration.
But his being seen now (as reported) on the cctv at Agia Marina seems so very sad.

Seems he was 100 meters away from safety after an ardouus 2 mile walk so close just tragic
