Not looking good. 30°+, too hot for search dogs for more than hour, tricky terrain, boulders and snakes, looking for a man in his 60's with no phone, no water and just an umbrella to protect him from the heat. Weather was too hot for the locals to go out. Honestly, what was he thinking? Sadly I doubt we'll ever know

Said tongue in cheek, l am going to Kefalonia on holiday. As l said a completely different island, and of course l wouldn't help in the search

Bit weird on a thread about a missing journalist who may well be dead

Each time this gets bounced I hope it's good news, but time is now getting on and it's not looking good. And I know that I've bounced it again

I would be more of a hindrance anyway.

Am I dreaming this but wasn't there a documentary or something fairly recently, maybe 2-3 years ago and something very similar happened? It was definitely a Greek island but not sure if it was the same one.

There was a case a couple of years ago of a woman going for a walk on her own in Greece and being attacked and eaten by wild dogs/wolves. Incredibly grim. I can't help thinking it might have happened again, but surely unlikely. Really hope he's found safe and well - I've always liked the fella.

Looking at the map, the area of the peninsula north east of Pedi-Symi line is 2 to 3 square km. It doesn't sound a huge area to search, but depends how many searchers and drones are involved.
If he was trying to shelter from the heat he might be hidden from aerial view in a cave or by a boulder.

RIP - a good man gone. He can’t be alive after this time in that heat surely. I wonder if we’ll ever know what happened to him. Netflix have probably already had a meeting about and drafted story boards. Such as it is this days to turn everything immediately into ‘entertainment’

I remember Richard Gere and Steven Fry going missing in the past and both were safe and sound, hopefully he just felt like getting away from his missus for a couple of days and is somewhere safe.

Yes. That happened to a carpenter who was doing work on our house. One day he just flipped out and according to his partner, disappeared.

There are many scenarios that could have occurred, none of which involve death. He may have taken shelter from the heat, and may have fallen unconscious. He may have had a fall and be injured somewhere. He may have gone to the caves and tunnels which I hear are under the desert hills nearby and lost his way.

I know it seems logical to assume he is no more, but it seems rather assuming to unilaterally pronounce him dead without a body, from 2000 miles away on a football forum.

Interesting possibility regarding Stonehouse, but I think that there are two key differences in these cases...

1. He has a successful, lucrative career and so I can't believe he has any money worries
2. He doesn't have a mistress that he wants to run away with, as far as we know. And I think we WOULD know by now, because the tabloids will have been all over his contacts/meetings/CCTV/rumours (and maybe even phone hacking) by now and nothing has come out of the woodwork.

Just got to keep hoping for the least bad outcome.
