f*** me, if I was Boro I would take the 6m and play Adam Johnson, a far better player than Downing.

Adam Johnson is good, and will be very good, but he certainly isn't as good as Downing yet.

10 million though and Boro should sell.

The thing is... Downing is a LEFT sided winger with a good left foot.
LEFT sided players are rarer than right sided players.
Good wingers are rarer than good defenders.

So the price is decided noy in terms of absolute quality, but by the rarity of the skillset on offer.

I agree that Downing flatters to deceive. I don't understand all the hype about him, and to my mind he is certainly not in the same bracket as Bent, Defoe, Bentley... all £15M players, but none of them can do a job out on the left wing.

Having said all that... I wouldn't mind seeing Downing in the blue and white stripes.

Madrid wanted him but couldn't afford him, hence Pennant, he would stroll in.

Boca have one player who is comparable to his ability.

There are hardly any quality left wingers in the world. Young is right up there.

Downing is not, but going on what people pay for who nowadays he is probably worth at least 10-11 mill.
