Johnson earned another point for Palace with a goal against Spurs
Iain Dowie believes Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson deserves to be called into the England squad to face Holland on 9 February at Villa Park.
The 23-year-old has scored 10 goals in the Premiership this season and England assistant coach Tord Grip has admitted Johnson is being considered.

Eagles boss Dowie said: "I hope it happens for him, I really do.

"He deserves everything he gets because he is a proper player - he is a down-to-earth lad who works his socks off."

Dowie also reiterated his desire to keep hold of Johnson for the rest of the campaign despite interest from around the Premiership for his services.

He added: "The Johnson situation is non-negotiable - if we sold him now, what would the fans think? It would not be right.

"Andrew is the future of the club and I might have to turn my phone off to avoid the bids in January.

"This is a big enough club to sustain Andy Johnson - what we have got to do is develop a club which allows Andy Johnson to achieve what he can, because he can achieve lots in the game.

Any player who has scored as many goals as he has in one of the smaller Premiership clubs deserves their chance. Give him a go I say

I know Dowie doesn't want to sell him but does Johnson want to stay?

Best of luck to him. Owen and Rooney seem out of form lately, so give him a chance.

I reckon we have more chance of seeing Boris Johnson play for England, given Sven's undying loyalty to the likes of Owen, Rooney and Co, regardless of their current form.

owen and johnson do play the same kind of game but johnsons work rate through out the game is out of this world.he took a ball running towards the corner flag away at southampton with the left back along side him and he went into another gear and left the left back for dead never seen a player use that kind of pace in my 30 years of watching football plus he is only 23 his best years are still to come.

He's not good enough for England.

Dowie is just talking up his value to cover Palace's arse in ther transfer window.

Id rather he was in ahead of Smith.

My 4 would be Owen Rooney Defoe and Johnson in that order.

I'd like to see him get a try out at a friendly, to be honest. He can score goals.

Beattie banged in the goals for Southampton - he's not good enough for England.

Phillips did it for Sunderland - he wasn't good enough either.

You can go back in the history books and will see many English strikers who've had good years and banged in the goals, but not got a sniff of a call-up. Mark Falco of Spurs banged in 20+, it took Andy Cole years before he got a game.

Johnson is not world-class, although I'll give you he's a decent Prem striker.
