brighton, actually
they need to sort out booking system- it was dangerously overcrowded last Xmas, and a previous time when we had booked, still had to wait 20/30 mins in the bar area (a cunning ploy..?) to get seated..

The food is OK, nothing special.

would prefer Al Duomo(?) by the Pavilion, but then someone else paid!

It strikes me as those who are dissing Donatellos don't like Italian food overall. I don't eat pizza when I go as they have such a good variety of other dishes.

Au contraire. I would imagine that those dissing Donatellos appreciate good Italian food. Donatellos produces cheap and not particularly cheerful food. It is great if you want a fast, cheap bite and not particularly fussed about the quality. It is imitation Italian food as opposed to the real McCoy.

Their food was a lot better at Topolino and Pinocchio when they were a small 'firm'.

Been to Donatellos once. It was full of cackling hen parties and was a horrendous experience.

its ok for a bite, but not if you want to impress someone (boss / wife / lover??), or celebrate in style..

I don't either, but i still find their food sub-standard when compared to proper mediterranean food.

The only good thing about donatellos is their house white.

I went to Wagamama's in January and had to complain because we had vouchers which were 2for1. We told them from the start and that we wanted separate bills. At the end, the waitress argued with us that she didn't know that we had vouchers (3 of us out of 17 had them) tried to refuse us separate bills (despite the fact that the numbers of the food were written on the paper place mats) and then grudgingly told us that 'just this once' she would do it.
I received a letter of apology a week later with £30 of vouchers to go and have another meal. I was also told that the member of staff would be spoken to.
I shared the vouchers with my colleagues but haven't yet spent my £10 worth.

I dont think Donatellos makes itself out to be a flash restaurant. What it does is good. It serves reasonable food,at a reasonable price in reasonable surroundings. The service is quick, the staff are friendly & you get 10% off with ya gold card.

Doesn't deserve to get knocked

My thoughts as well and a very pleasant meal - you get what you pay for.

To be honest, you get what you pay for at Donatellos. The food is ok, nothing more. If you want a better Italian you pay more and go somewhere else.

Its always packed at weekends so can't be that bad...
