I am pissed off that Starmer is being gutless in response to Trump giving us tariffs of 25% despite our trade balance with them being broadly even.

He's all "we won't reciprocate yet", while all the other trading blocks like the EU and China are meeting this Trump nonsense robustly.

If only we were part of a trading blocks to protect our interests.
“Won’t somebody please think of the fiscal rules?”

Correct. Canada is much better than the US.
If the quality of life in Murka was higher, the same or even a bit lower than Canada's, you would not have had the immediate furore and backlash from us. The day tЯ☭mp announced his first tariffs, the US anthem at an international hockey game was lustfuly booed... in Montréal !

We know life up here is much, much better. That's from a lifetime of watching their TV, reading and listening to their news, taking trip after trip in the States... We don't want to become Puerto Rico North.

Its quite a sad state of affairs really, that the President of the US has morphed into a car salesman on the national stage because his accomplice has hurt feelings from FAFO.

So, in conclusion, tariffs:
  • Don’t do what Trump thinks they do
  • Harm American consumers
  • Royally piss off the target countries
  • Royally upset the stock markets
  • Are easily gamed
Super genius!
I only tried explaining the easy bit to LasVegan - that US tariffs would lead to increased costs for US consumers............but he didn't get it.

In such a litigatious country, wonder what other car manufacturers think of this desperate pr stunt? Aren’t quite a lot of Tesla’s made outside of the U.S?
