Now, I'm no stock broker but even I know it's the Dow 'JONES' ffs!

I'm really struggling to work out what he means by 'dropping' the farmer tariff from 250% to 390%?

Do a lot of people in the US buy Canadian cars? A quick Google has said they have a lot to do with Ford & GM. I'll feel bad if I have to blame Canada for producing s**t Fords these days. The transits are proper crap unless you buy them from new. A Renault Trafic with 180K miles on the clock & still going is the new Ford Transit. Minor technical issues with electrics though!

Are Canadians going to be really badly affected by the tariffs? Trump just seems to make things sound 'massive' when they might not do much at all.
As I mentioned at length in this thread last month -- when I also expressed my fear of annexation and was pooh-poohed for it by some here -- the auto industry in North America is completely intertwined. Hurt any one of us, and the other 2 will suffer as well.

You couldn’t make it up … if only a load of expert economists had predicted Trump’s tariff and trade wars would harm almost everyone. As Wall Street markets plunge, fiscally Yanks earning under $360k a year will be hurt by his tax increases. There’ll be 10m’s of MAGA in that bracket :dunce:.

They might be getting their massive tax cuts, but not without some costs:

Here’s another from his first presidency, no surprise, his tax cuts overwhelmingly favoured the already rich.

Hmmm... did you read that the majority of the officers that Musk culled from their IRS actually specialized in investigating the tax affairs of very high earners and large companies 🤔...no surprise there.

More comedy:

Trump made a show of support for Elon Musk’s Tesla by purchasing a vehicle from the billionaire’s electric car company.

”Elon Musk is ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!

“But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World’s great automakers, and Elon’s ‘baby,’ in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for.”

The radical left, banging on about choice for the private sector consumer and breaking up monopolies as per usual…

These days, if you boycott products from a company owned by a nazi-saluting, politically inept insufferable bellend, you get arrested, thrown in jail and possibly deported back to an insane asylum.

When I lived in the US my V8 5.4 litre supercharged Ford Lightning was manufactured in Ontario

(truly a thing of wonder, I brought it back to East Sussex and ended up selling it here at 12 year/s old for pretty much what I paid new)

But it's a super car, not many people would buy it as a general 'run around' as you would for a Fiesta.

Canada has a dairy and poultry supply management system in place which the US accuses is a form of protectionism.

If you have a spare hour or two, the following Wikipedia article might be enlightening: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dairy_and_poultry_supply_management_in_Canada

Personally I wouldn't want any US dairy products up here full of hormones, antibiotics and all other manner of crap.

This is kind of Liz's 'pork markets', I don't suppose there are many people in the UK who are happy to see imports of US food. We have US imported 'Brands' such as McDonalds but if you look at the ingredients of a Big Mac in the UK & compare it to the US, the UK version looks kind of, 'healthy' in comparison. I'm one of those people that would prefer to have 'actual' sugar in a drink rather than chemically produced Aspartame. Its actually quite difficult to find them. I struck gold last year when I found a cherryade that just has cherries and sparkling water. I will try to look at the article, I've skimmed it but it needs more than a skim.

So there's a possibility he has you by the short & curlies? My only knowledge of anything to do with Canada is from you & a couple of others on here. Can you link me to your post please? I had hopes that it would be easy for you just to tell him to f**k off & that he needs you, more than you need him. Which is actually true, as he wouldn't be interested if you didn't have something of value to him. ☹️
