We pay over the odds because energy is linked to the most expensive source of energy, ie gas
The energy market needs to be reformed then we will take advantage of cheap renewables.
Labour are in the right track, the Tories were obsessed with legacy fossil fuels and extracting the dregs from the North Sea to rewards no one but primary extractors
I agree with your first two points entirely.
We also need to be making the most efficient use of the resources we have available here as we progress towards the ultimate aim of reducing usage. The war in Ukraine has just exposed the fact we need to take a more pragmatic approach and recognise that we are vulnerable in terms of our energy security.
For example, at this very moment only 16% of the UK electricity supply is coming from gas (yay!), however we are importing 18.7%, and a good portion of the further 5.8% being supplied from 'biomass' will actually formerly be a Canadian forest. These are all supplies that can be easily disrupted.
46.2% from solar/wind/hydro combined is great for the time of year, including the 2.5Kw contribution from my roof.
