Populism: a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.

Populism: political ideas and activities that are intended to get the support of ordinary by giving them what they want.

Populism: a political philosophy or movement that represents or is claimed to represent the interests of ordinary people especially against the Establishment.

Populism: What's not to like.
Not all people want the same thing.
and what they want may not be what they need or is best for them.

Populism - Providing straightforward answers to complex problems that are easy to understand but are undeliverable.

But I thought he did...

Paraphrasing from memory:

America will become a manufacturing nation again
They will apply tariffs to imports
They will endeavour for peace and try to stop wars
They will not get involved in wars if they can avoid them
They will improve the health service
They will stop illegal immigration
They will deport illegal aliens
They will make use of the natural underground resources
etc.

Whether he delivers or not we won't know for some time, of course, but he DID lay out his plans.
Indeed he said his plan was to take action TODAY. Not start a consultation process or form a working party, but to actually sign the legal orders today.
Indeed.

I for one am definitely excited.

It's another version of what Labour used to be accused of promoting:

Shaking the magic money tree.

Except that in the case of the populists, it is actually their actual policy.

If Americans don’t think he has improved the quality of their life in 4 years, they will flip again… let’s see
Why do lefties always get their knickers in a twist when they lose an election? Trump won a democratic election and he's now got 4 years to implement his manifesto. IF he manages to make a success of things then the electorate will back him accordingly. I think he's got a much better chance of succeeding then the hopeless government we have in this country but only time will tell. In the meantime stop crying, relax and enjoy the ride 👍

Crikey, that’s a hell of a take!

In my experience “lefties” grumble about the electorate being thick, have a bit of a moan, and then move on disgruntled.

The last time the Republicans lost an election, they marched on bloody Washington and attempted an insurrection at the behest of their leader.

That’s a bit more than “getting their knickers in a twist”

You're right, let's enjoy war with Panama, Greenland, Ukraine being abandoned to Putin, etc etc.

Still early hours of the morning in Moscow, Vladimir will tell him how it’s going to end when he wakes up
This . . . Donald won't understand the map of rich natural resources which Russia wants/needs(for free) I'm sure Vlad has a colour-inner who can do stars n stripes for him . . . stripes for Ukraine on the left and stars for Vlad on the right. Red stars

Love him or hate him, it was a speech of hope, ambition and better things to come, (ok some BS)
But, contrast that with the UK talking down and doom loop.
There’s a reason why US GDP compared to EU has doubled in last 10 years. They want to get bigger, they want economic freedom and small state.
We gave them that 250 years ago…
We are the ones who don’t have ambition to grow
We are the US 4 years ago

Just words, crazy f***ing words... he can talk the talk (and 95% utter vile shit) but he absolutely won't deliver on what he's said today for the most part and the Americans pinning all their hope on him for their lives to improve will undoubtedly be let down

Populism: What's not to like.

Populism preys on the weak, vulnerable and uneducated by spreading lies and misinformation around the root of their troubles (immigrants/establishment) .

Populism drives divide - 'them and us' - drives hatred, racism, bigotry, nationalism, inhumane sentiment etc

Populism usually denies scientific fact (eg climate change) and the so-called 'woke agenda' ('compassion' in fair minded people's eyes - pro choice, equality, lqbtq+ rights etc)

Populist leaders have zero interest in the people they dupe into voting for them - they look solely after their own interests and enriching their cronies

Trump is all the above. His speech as a whole heap of hot air - very dangerous hot air in parts.

Not to say that established political parties don't have a lot to answer for in terms of not addressing clearly or resolutely enough the issues of those ordinary people as you mentioned, but populism on the rise around the world is extremely worrying, especially for climate change in the long term, but in the short term in terms of the world becoming ever-divided

Pretty sad times, imo

Is Trump himself, still banging on about a stolen election. Despite also losing numerous court cases proving that he lost the election.

Bloody lefties 🤣

It’s not just another football match… better luck next week etc… this is actually very serious stuff.

I genuinely believe that best case scenario in the next four years, due to the wrong policies (in my opinion) being implemented, hundreds of thousands will die due to their poor healthcare system just to name one thing, thousands lose homes, thousands lose jobs etc… you get the jist.

I know that’s not what you believe, but I can imagine you’d think the same things if the “lefties” had won. I really hope you’re right though and my entire philosophy on life is wrong.

Edit: This is me being polite by the way. Elon Musk literally conducted Nazi Salutes from his mate’s podium an hour ago.

Cant say I remember Starmers speech when he spoke about taking India back and renaming the Irish Sea the British Sea
Can’t remember that in Trumps policy
How about ambition, aspiration and positivity…
Can’t remember Starmer saying anything positive apart from ‘change’
Really something to bring inward investment and create jobs

At the moment (as he hasn't yet changed the constitution) the electorate will not be able to back him in 4 years.

Oh sorry, must have misheard, in his speech just after he was made president, when he said he would take back the Panama Canal, presumably the same way his mate is in the east and also rename the Gulf
