Media studies should be a core subject in secondary schools

My colleague and I have a term of E Safety in the primary school where we teach. We cover things such as spotting fake news and fact checking. I agree, it is fundamental not only to help how we view the information the internet bombards us with, but also in how we end up viewing the outside world. Every school should prioritise critical thinking unless we are as a society content ourselves with the lowest common denominator prevailing.

Lets hope the world sees sense and continues its pursuit of democracy. Lets hope Americans see sense and pursue their protection of the constitution and stop this headlong march into an autocracy, and removal of an independant judiciary.....

Even if America doesn't do that, I would hope it would see sense to put decent, honest and humble people in its positions of power.

The world cannot view the US as a friend anymore.

Good to hear and I totally agree. A Polish secondary school teacher I know was lamenting the lack of media literacy amongst her students but when I asked if it was something they taught in schools, she confessed it wasn't.

All those people who were clinging to the constitution are hopefully realizing now that the constitution means nothing.

Now Trump is looking at deep cuts to the DoD. I always thought a military coup in the US was an absolute impossibility. I feel like it's moving slowly towards a maybe.
