For Trump its also about Greenland’s oil reserves too and Trump’s desire to make America fuel independent.

There are some in Greenland that are unhappy with Danish oversight (interference) an independent Greenland would probably have much to gain from a closer allegiance with the U.S.

Some but not a majority. The King of Denmark has changed his royal coat of arms to include Greenland and the Hebrides.

“When it came to US Greenbackland, Trump threatened economic retaliation against Denmark, noting that if that country resisted his territorial ambitions he “would tariff Denmark at a very high level”.

The new name.

Do you know the connection between the King of Denmark, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and my great grandfather?

Greenland banned oil exploration on environmental grounds in 2021

I've just read the bbc update on Trump's speech... wow 😲... straight out of the Putin playbook! He loves the man's strategies.
I'm sure there's a friendly/NATO way to ensure Greenland and it's waters are protected from rogue Russian shit without invading it.
(Or it's really about the oil and minerals...)

There are so many crazy outrageous stories connected to Trump at the moment. He wants to buy Greenland, he wants Canada to become a US state, Tommy Robinson could become the UK Prime minister. I don't think he believes any of these for a minute. I think its all a smoke screen and distraction for what he really wants. I have no idea what that would be, but I think the more outrageous the story, the more agitated his opponents get, and the more focused they are on fictional stories that will never happen, the less focused they are on the actual/real things he's doing.

“Asked if he would rule out using military or economic force in order to take over the autonomous Danish territory or the Canal, he responded: "No, I can't assure you on either of those two.”

Sounds like Putin mk 2 !
I’m not sure he is a mk 2. I think Putin is profoundly evil but he is smart, very smart. You can never accuse Trump of being that but he is authentically thick which those who share that quality, or think they can get richer from his governance relate to 100%.

Trump’s dementia is clearly as bad as people were suggesting during the election campaign. This stuff is the ramblings of a mad man with no filters. He literally thinks he can say and do anything. The worrying thing is about who has his ear and is influencing the old duffer. That said, it’s quite difficult to influence someone who does not know their own mind.

It weakens NATO if one member attacks another. Iceland are also part of NATO albeit without a military, but are now applying to join the EU for trade protection.

Putin will be loving all this.

Trump and his cronies now destabilising NATO countries and supporting far right candidates with authoritarian ambitions.

Just look at the language Robert Jenrick came out with, we now have member of the Tory party trying to out "far right" Reform.

Feels like chaos everywhere.

What a shit show world state of affairs we could be looking at this year. The deluded fake tanned dumbass in America and his moon faced, overly belligerent overly confident glove-puppet seem determined to piss off every sane thinking person across the globe. Eventually I do think a few more equally violent Americans will seek to put them in their sights.
The window of opportunity for nutcases always appears to be somehow slightly open in the USA compared to Russia.

He seems a little concerned about the possible publication of the counsel's report into the Jan 6 case. So - keep the public's mind focused on something else. Age old tactic.

Trump is just a useful idiot. And judging by the news coverage and this thread he's doing a great job.

Possibly Musk as well.

I believe he is being encouraged to make as much noise as possible to distract from...something. No idea what or for whom. Well find out eventually I guess.

Trump now threatening to declare a state of economic emergency in order to impose a broad range of tariffs against Denmark and other allies

“The emergency powers move would allow Trump to implement broad tariff measures against both allies and adversaries through the International Economic Emergency Powers Act”.
2 weeks to inauguration and he’s already imploding with insane ideas.
