The problem Harris has is that she is perceived, rightly or wrongly, as having been appointed primarily because she is a black woman. And as they found out with Geraldine Ferraro, it doesn't help to appoint someone as a token because it upsets more people that it pleases.I don’t think his Putin gaffe is going to go away - it will stick in the craw of Democrats who are already overly sensitised to his cognitive decline. 85% of Americans say he’s too old to do another term and every sign of weakness will feed that narrative.
As @Bry Nylon said above - When the Candidate has become the story then it’s over.
The only thing that is concerning is there will be a lot of angry voters if Kamala Harris is passed over. So how would a black female candidate do against a white male - not sure the swing voters of middle America are ready for that.
The longer this drags on the more damage it is doing to the Democratic Party.
Margaret Thatcher, Theresa May, and Liz Truss all found out - being a woman doesn't mean that women feel they have to vote for you. And Rishi Sunak found out - being black doesn't mean that black people feel they have to vote for you.
