Bournemouth will get him over us imo. We are not going to be paying 19 million for an unproven player wherever he comes from.

The term ‘unproven’ is relative.

Tony had £20m+ bagged up for Levy to sign his Janssen lad who hadn’t done much more than Solanke. If Tony wanted this boy, he’d get him no matter what experience he’d had.

breaking news on BBC now

Anyone able to explain why he could sign for Palace on loan but cannot for Bournemouth as per the BBC site? Is it because Palace aren’t subject to the same rules as everyone else?

Bournemouth are close to signing England striker Dominic Solanke from Liverpool for £19m.

Solanke, 21, had been due to join Crystal Palace on loan earlier this week but the deal fell through because of fitness concerns.

Bournemouth are about to allow forward Jermain Defoe join Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

It is understood Solanke cannot move to the Cherries on loan under Premier League regulations.

paying a hefty premium for a HGP ... sadly the way of English footy is that English players are double the equivalent European or South American ... will only get worse with minimums for HGP in squads increasing in the near future ... only option to keep costs down is use of the clubs own academy system

£19m is way over the odds for a unproven even if he has won a youth world cup

Might be to do with loan rules, do they already have a player on loan from Liverpool?

Can’t have two loanees from the same team in the Premier League, they have Clyne, so Solanke has to be purchased.

Story from Palace yesterday was that Solanke has a "fitness issue" which meant he wouldn't be playing immediately, which is what they are after in a loan striker.

Whereas, a couple of weeks shaking off an injury, or addressing whatever "fitness issue" he may or may not have, isn't really such a big deal if you are signing him permanently to a 4-5 year deal.

Personally, I think Liverpool probably pulled out of theloan deal when they realised they had two clubs interested at £15-20m.

This may be one we regret. Young, British and talented. Lets see...

Well we tend to look for value in our signings, and whilst Solanki is British and young, it has to be said that £19m is an enormous outlay for a kid like that. That strikes me as considerably riskier than say, the Andone or even the Locadia signings. Uncle Tony seems happy to spend when required but this one seems quite frivolous. If the price being quoted had been nearer £12m I reckon we'd have been serious about getting him, and frankly we've got a bit more to offer than Bournemouth.
