Dogs or Cats

I love both cats and dogs. Before I met Ned I always had a dog but unfortunately he is asthmatic and allergic to dogs.
We have two cats (we did have 3 but our 21 yr old Fluff was finally put to sleep 4 weeks ago)
Dogs do require a lot more attention than cats but also give a lot more affection in return.

Yes I am a catty person, I have 3.

Darcy, 10 - jet black, small for a male but the handsomest and coolest, but not particularly friendly, still, he looks good. Brigh'on born and bred.
Then two Gloucestershire farm cats:
Jack, 8 - huge and Ginger, never used his claws once and as lovable as a big, dopey labrador - to humankind, he always sleeps on me. Yet, a natural born killer of anything smaller than himself, hence the procession of near-corpses he brings into the house to chase around. One field mouse ended up running into the insides of our dishwasher, where it died, and stank the entire house out until I had to take the dishwasher apart and remove it :)
Rose, 8 - tortyshell, and has remained an eternal kitten, ie. chasing stuff around all day, never leaving your side, she even plays fetch on command with objects she can manage to carry back in her mouth to you - dog-style skills in cats always impresses visitors to our house. She has undergrown front legs, so she slopes down to the ground like a drag-racing car - it's apparantly a not uncommon condition in dogs but very rare in cats. So much so that our vet asked us if he could have her skelton when she died, which is the only time I've ever heard my girlfriend swear at someone in some kind of authority position.

Dogs for me, just find them more rewarding than cats, not that I've got anything against them.
Missus loves cats, and we would have one as well, were it not for our GSP being a cat chaser!
Donate money monthly to cats protectio to make up for it!

Well f*** it then, debate over, you know everything. Mods, can we close the thread please because bhaexpress has lived with a woman who had 10 cats

That is what you put in your original post. That is bullshit. So would you label those 10 cats, or even the cat you're looking after at the moment inherently spiteful? Have you ever even owned a pet? Pal.

Actually've known cats for along time and the point which you've clearly missed is that all ten cats were treated identically yet two were vicious and spiteful whereas the others were either indifferent of intwo cases very freidly in an almost doglike fashion. That and various other experieneces such as would rather put an end to your pompous and clearly inaccurate notions.

I've said my piece. Anyone that reads this thread can see that you're talking bollocks and have either chosen to ignore or didn't understand what I posted in the first place. Either way that makes you pretty stupid. I won't be opening it again.

So it's bullshit ? Well okay Mr cat expert, please explain why ten cats all treated the same act so differently ? I might add that I've known quite few cats that were treated well and were still obnoxious.

Dogs on the other hand, as they're easy to condition and train are far more predictable. You can't really train a cat can you ? After all, when have youi ever heard of a Guard cat, or a Drug sniffer cat ? Or maybe a Guide cat for the blind ?

I might also add that we've all heard about vicious pit bulls. Well there again, both here and in the US I have come across Pit Bulls which were very friendly, I've also encountred aggressive labradors and that is rare. It's about conditioning agreed but cats as has already been said are far more independant han dogs and as such nowhere near as predictable. My point was based on quite a lot of experince. Whta's your viewpoint based on ?

I know that feeling as well.

(Dog being pleased to see me, not me pleased to see you that is.)

PS. Cute goat Starry.

(3 words you don't see together often)

In the main you're right, however, the menagerie I'm currently looking after also includes a cat. That's always pleased tos ee people and has the added advantage of not jumping up at you with muddy paws. Were all cats like that I'd possibly prefer them but it's dogs all the way for me. Dogs tend to give unconditional love which leads me to believe that a cruel and unusual punisment should be meted out anybody who abuses animals and dogs in particular.

Dogs, only creature that gives unconditional love. Walking the dog is very therapeutic after a shit day at the office.

Cheers Clip, a good few years ago I was living in New Jersey with a woman who had a dog who's previous owner had literally kicked it's teeth out. The poor thing was a nervous wreck. I was so sad when I heard that the dog's assailant had been beaten into a vegative state with a judiciously applied baseball bat.

This is Mischief, one of my four gorgeous cats, messing about in the garden in the pic. Mischief by name and by nature, but 100% loving and affectionate. Her mum, Daisy, had been abused before we took her and Mischief in from the cat sanctuary, and for the first month or so Daisy hid behind the washing machine, wouldn't come out for anything. Now, however, with loads of love and attention from me and Mrs ELS, she's trusting, warm and a completely different cat.

And this cat below is Willow, our gorgeous gingery tabby. Favourite pastime, cuddling up and sleeping. Very theraputic for us humans too :)

Funny you should mention the short legs thing, it is characteristic of Croydon-man, that is why their knuckles tend to drag along the ground as they walk!

How is that an advantage? Our youngest is always so pleased to see you that you are guaranteed to end up covered in muddy paw prints and I couldn't care less. I come home from work and have five canine friends fighting to say hello to me first. The cats are still laying in their basket ignoring me until they want something.
