[Albion] Does Potter really believe the team doesn’t need strengthening?

Yes they did.

Hence why the manager went and so have some of the signings. Change was required and that’s what’s happened.

We will see very shortly if those changes bring the Bloom/Barber ambition of being an established Premier League side, with a top ten target within the next few seasons

Desperately need what was described as the younger Murray with pace so we have another outlet up the pitch who can hold and link play.

I am worried.

The team look lightweight. It’s all very well playing our rubbish version of tikitaka but we haven’t got the players to do it.

If we can’t strengthen the team, which will be really hard in January, there is going to come a point where warriors like Duffy and Murray will have to play. You could see Murray’s authority when he came on yesterday.

I am sure Potter does think the team needs strengthening, what I’m worried about it is the club’s ability to do something about it and what happens if they can’t.

He said in this week’s press conference that, obviously, there are areas he wants to strengthen but, equally obviously, he won’t talk about those areas to the press.

Can’t believe the ridiculous negativity among Albion “supporters” at the moment - but I guess it’s inevitable with so many new/PL fans.

Usually the only time that managers talk openly about needing to sign lots of players, is when chairmen are withholding funds (or at least the managers perceive them to be), a la Benitez and Mourinho.

Read nothing into it. We are being continually linked to strikers and right backs, surely one or two will be based in some truth.

We need to spend £80 million on a good wide man and goalscorer. But it's not gonna happen.
Two things you need outside the top 6 - a consistent goalscorer - and pace.

That is 2/3rd of what our stadium cost. We don't need to spend that on two players.
Actually - if you want to progress this is exactly what is needed.

I am sure Potter does think the team needs strengthening, what I’m worried about it is the club’s ability to do something about it and what happens if they can’t.
And this is the problem - people do not realise how difficult it is to actually sign a player - assuming you can find the one you want. You have 20 teams in the UK looking for the same players - along with clubs throughout the rest of Europe. Quite often it is hit and miss and you spend you money and hope it works out - prime example - Man Utd - Alexis Sanchez - £500K a week - Fred has been useless at £50m - even Pogba has not been worth £90m. The PL is littered with expensive players that just aren't good enough.

Do you not like Fred ?

I think he has been much improved this season since Pogba has been removed from the Man United team.

Fred isn't an eye catching player but he wasn't signed as an eye catching player.

He is very neat and tidy player. Works hard and seldom wastes a pass. He gets Man United further upfield.

It's when the ball leaves Fred's feet to other Man United players that play breaks down and then Fred is caught upfield out of position.

Just my personal opinion but I think Fred has been a good acquisition.

There’s nothing wrong with judging the recruitment strategy of the club.

I’m sure most here are behind the manager but it doesn’t mean we have to be happy clappy 100% of the time.

Man for man, we are superior to Sheff Utd in almost every position yet they have a better ‘team’ than us. Potter will see and know this; there is room for a huge gain with this squad using coaching alone.

exactly this, as I posted elsewhere, we have the players, its GP's job to pick the right ones for any given formation which is most likely to get a result against the next opposition.

he got it wrong yesterday.

He didn't get the starting 11 wrong. We were easily the best team in the first-half, and if we'd got a second we'd have been home and dry. What he didn't do was change things around when we started retreating into our shell.

agree, we were clearly the better team, and he didnt change in time, but I don't think AC/NM up front together works, which is why the start wasn't quite right for me . . . . we'd have been better with AJ on the right ( big gap there) and one striker . . . . playing 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 with AJ/TRossard up front with Maupay or Connolly . . .or 4-4 1-1 with Mooy/Gross feeding a striker and a dense midfield ( which we needed . . .Mooy/Biss/Propper/Stephens for example) as we started we were one sided and players getting in each others way.

We are in desperate need of a striker. If Maupay gets injured, we're f'd.
Yes. That is the nightmare which we have been exposed to once Andone left after the summer window had shut.

The club have 12 days, and I really hope we arn't panic buying/loaning in the last 2 days.

Hopefully also we arn't forced to recall Gyokeres as the fallback option when all other targets have failed.
