regardsYes, the '1901 Club Ultras'.
They attack opponents with flailing lanyards.

Was behind this when it happened... the reason the guy was fighting, was he was being arrested for throwing a 'can' of whatever....even though the can was thrown from around 15 yards to his right... he was very pissed off about being arrested for it...as you would be...next morning that picture is splashed over the papers with the word 'hooligan' attached..
if you can see day light, yes!Hove station used to be a very excitable place to be, after the home matches in the late 60's and 70's if my memory serves me right.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the old BHAFC firm used to be called the Head Hunters I think as Chelsea were, or am I talking out of my backside?

This was the photo on the back of a sunday paper,a few familar faces in the back ground
One of my mates got over excited after the match and proceeded to jump into their stand and whacked a few. He then chased a few out of their end and into the street and ran after them. About 50 yards later he found he was alone with about 5-6 Chesterfield fans and they turned on him.Not exactly 'firm' related, but the match at Chesterfield sticks in my mind, as it was pretty funny as well. I think we had 8000 at the match, as we would be promoted as champions, if we won. We drew.
People started going onto the pitch, and I think the the police thought people were off to congratulate the players. and didnt realise their mistake until quite a few had passed the players and were on their way to the Chesterfield home end. Chesterfield fans were fighting each other trying to get out of the stand.

There was about a dozen of us by the goal in front of their end at the end, and realised the police had got sorted and had a line across the pitch...Chesterfield fans gave it large, but hadnt seen, what we had seen, and that was a huge mob of Brighton coming down the side, so they were pretty shocked when we jumped into their end. I kicked some bloke so hard, my shoe actually fell apart, and as he fell, a ring he was wearing caught me across the mouth.. A one shoe drunk with and a split lip didnt impress my missus for some reason. Unreasonable.
Shouldn't underestimate places like Chesterfield and Mansfield, remember going to Mansfield in the FA cup in 80? there wasn't a train station then so got off at Nottingham and then a train to Mansfield parkway then a bus into Mansfield itself ,kicked off before the game on the way to the ground with a chap from Newhaven wearing a balaclava and wielding a wine bottle! and towards the end Mansfield came mob handed to our end but OB kept them back ,got an escort back to the bus station and left to our own devices ,got a bit moody wiith Mansfield mingling in ,ended up with bus driver taking the bus we got o to the OB station when it kicked off on the bus with some Mansfield who threw a couple of snidey punches when they got offtheir end got ran before kick off, they were a bit more game at the end though
I bet ,you were there when Palace ran the gauntlet past the pub and into the station that day:winkI found the steps more exciting tbh .
