Sketchy memories. But must have been somewhere between 1967 and 1968. Big travelling away support, and from memory the goalposts had been painted blue and white overnight. I can recall Arsenal and QPR fans there, but unsure why. It was quite a scary day for me as a 14/15 year old.

I can definately remember the chants of "McCauley out, McCauley out!!"

I didn't go to away games then but I remember the home game against Watford in 1966/67. Brian Dear scored an absolutely cracking goal from way outside the area - he looked like he was going to be a fantastic player for us but, sadly, he seemed more interested in pints than points.

On loan from West Ham wasn't he.Really looked the business when he could be bothered.Agree with your pints and points remark.

In those days you need binoculars at Vicarage Road to see the pitch.

I seem to recall that when MaCauley was sacked then next home game was against Watford and we lost 0-1.

Looking at those stats, on the 39th Jan we've had 2 geat FA cup wins, beating Man City 4-0 and Liverpool 2-0. Them were the days!

I remember that although I couldn't have told you it was against Watford. Happy days :)

Brightons first ever promotion was achieved against Watford at The Goldstone to go from Div III South to Div II although there was a number of rumours circulating about the match being a fix.

I was there, Albion 6-0 (Adrian Thorne scored five of them) huge crowd, a night to remember.

We also had won 1-0 at Watford earlier that season.

Here's hoping for a repeat later today

I can't remember the year, but my best memory of a Vicarage Road match was also a cup game?
I remember we won it 3-0 ... or 3-1?

We were at least 1 division higher than Watford, might even have been 2?

Before the game, an army of Albion fans were queuing waiting to go through the turnstiles, and a single Watford lad filed past heading for their end, and he started singing "Watford, Watford, Giant killers ...." (can't remember what tune?).
After a couple of verses the lad had walked past the majority of us, but he suddenly stopped, turned around looking horrified and said ... "not that you lot are giants?"

I remember the whole queue pissed themselves and shouted back at him "too late mate ... you can't take it back!!":lol:
