It seems to me that the hard core Dr Who fans will lap this up.

Sadly though they are losing the masses now. Explain to me how you could sit down with a child and watch their first Dr Who episode tonight?

Just too complicated, too much based on past events, too dark.

Lots of the reasons why Dr Who died last time are now being repeated.

When Russell T brought back Dr Who he realised that it had to appeal to the masses or it wouldn't be sustained, it wouldn't carry on. That's what made it popular.

Moffett is like Corbyn, he has given up on the masses and is trying to please the core.

Bring back Russell T.

Enjoyed the episode but agree with the above -in danger of becoming too clever for its own good.

Excellent return for the series. Capaldi really is beginning to threaten my top 3 Doctors.

It wasn't beyond reproach, as much as I enjoy Gomez's take on the Master the episode wouldn't have lost much had she not been there, perhaps her true role and importance in this two-parter shall in the Witch's Familiar.

All in all though a solid 7.5 and a great feeling of anticipation for the weeks ahead.

In terms of being tricky to follow, was it?

Master? You only needed to have seen the last series to be up to speed.

Davros? Bad guy with some beef with the Doctor, as much was established fairly swiftly. But surely everyone knows who he is given his last appearance was in the fabled RTD era?

Daleks? Come on, EVERYONE knows who the Daleks are. The reappearance of the older models was nothing more than geek porn.

There was nothing in the episode that required a lot of explanation for 'new' viewers


I thought it was a bold and interesting episode,and I enjoyed it.

I thought it started well, was derailed by the misjudged bit with the tank and then picked up again towards the end. I liked the snake man. For me Capaldi is a much better Doctor than Matt Smith.

So the Doctor is dead/dying/on his final day AGAIN?

Good episode yeah but they're overdoing this particular storyline a bit too much.

It was superb. One of the best episodes of NuWho going in my book.

Anyone who seriously think Smith is better than Capaldi needs their head checked. It's so much darker and more grown up now and PC is superb.

Great episode i thought but if you really think a 'new' 13 year old viewer would understand all that you're barking mad.

Watched it on iPlayer last night and agree with The Master (you know who you are). It was great. One reason I was drawn to Dr Who back in 1963 was it scared the crap out of me, and I wasn't quite sure what was going on. The expectation was it would all turn out well, and explanations would be provided later. Then Peter Purves died and decomposed in a sandy desert. Hooked! Now, NuWho is in a different class, and seems to be bomb proof to me. Thankfully. There is no way the writers will 'try too hard to please' or too little, any more than any other great artist....relax, fretters, all will be well.

Thing is Dr Who is one of he the most BBCs most dowloaded/iplayered/series linked to watch later series there is behind Enders. You could easily add another 2million to that.

Then there is the WORLDWIDE audience that follows.

However I do think its trying to be too clever but thats Moffatt sadly.

I'm going to see how this pans out, both in part 2 and the rest of the series. I think the events in this 2 parter will have ramifications for the whole year.

I'm hoping those daleks were a collection of the best dalek military commanders from the entire dalek history.

A bit like getting together Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Saladin etc.

You didn't perchance record Dalek Masterplan off the tele did you? Boy would I love to see that desert sequence!
