Would it blow your argument completely out of the water if I said that someone's details appearing in court would be down to the Crown Prosecution Service and the criminal justice administrators, not the police?

No?

OK, carry on...

Who arrests you and charges you in the first place edna? And who convinces the CPS that they are telling the truth so they take it to court only to find that the police were being very ecenomical with the truth in the first place? Yeah I've been on the recieving end of it and I would like to know why they were'nt all charged with wasting the courts time when the case was over? And that goes for the person who accused me of comitting the crime in the first place!

Sorry for the rant but it does piss you off when you've been on the recieving end of it!

I must say my last dealing with them they were very fare in letting us out of the Aldershot end when they were just about to give us a kicking and when they done there checks they let us in the Away in with the rest of the Albion.
So i must praise them for that but i do hate there sneaky speedtraps out of town.

On the ocean wave
You get some good & some bad. Like all walks of life.
If you tar everyone with the same brush you end up bitter & twisted.

All together now, "Harry Roberts is our friend...................."

what do you suggest then?

I assume from your avatar that you believe in a strong nationhood, with the state keeping firm control over wrongdoers and those that seek to undermine 'traditional British values' as you see them. I'd have thought you'd be in favour of a large and powerful police force. In fact wouldn't you need a big police force?

I'm not having a pop or being sarcastic - it's a genuine question.

The Police are there to do a job just like the rest of us. They are a public service and get little thanks from any of us. They have a thankless task, a bloody hard job.

Would you put your self in their position when they have to tackle knife and gun wielding people?

I'm sure you will want them when the time is right.

They are in the front line and there to be shot at. Are you willing to put yourself in that position. I dare say not.

It is not the bobby on the beat who is answering your telephone calls, it's the politically correct govt legislation cut back on money people. There is and never will be any money in public services.

In every profession there is a rotten apple but that does not mean that everyone has to be tarred with the same brush.

Rant over. BB is on.

You get arrested because there are 'reasonable grounds' to suspect you either have, are, or are about to commit a crime. Usually this is because someone has accused you of it, or you've been seen by someone.

People do make malicious allegations, it happens all the time. If I turn up at a job and am faced with a seemingly distraught female with a cut face and she's telling me that the girl over there just whacked her, how can I possibly make a decision then and there that it's a load of crap? Unfortunately the way the justice system doesn't allow me that sort of discretion, and I would HAVE to arrest the accused on that initial evidence.

You get interviewed. The evidence, ie statements from victims, your interview account, if any, CCTV, forensic evidence, whatever, gets sent to the CPS. THEY make a decision on prosecution, and believe me, plenty of stuff gets dropped at that stage. There's no "convincing", because the CPS lawyers think they're a class above everyone anyway, but especially ordinary PCs. And half the time we're dealing with stuff that we know is total shit anyway, so we're delighted if the CPS advise no further action!

As for people's details appearing in court, well any law boffin will tell you it's a fundamental principle of English law that anyone sent for trial has a right to face their accuser in court. So clearly they're going to find out your name (unless it's a sexual offence)- generally, if you're a victim, you have to give evidence anyway, or you have no case. The "details", by which I presume Algie means address, personal stuff, and so on, is recorded only on documentation which does not get sent to the defence, therefore if any of that comes out in court, then it is down to the CPS prosecutor.

Obviously you would still call them if your a victim etc but i just don't have faith in them.To answer your question i would reinstall National service for a start.I also believe they should carry guns.So many times i hear people who have phoned them and yet they can't be arsed to come out. They normally get out of it with the same old excuse, they are attending a serious matter.
