Seriously, don't even consider using Impulse Leisure. I used to use them and the customer service was less than poor then. Since then my girlfriend has used them and they've actually got worse !!!! The Duty Managers, in particular Aaron and Amber, couldn't give a flying f*** about running the centre for the CUSTOMERS.

The staff are more interested in getting home or playing basketball instead of looking after customers ( they actually left a 12 year old unsupervised in the gym the other week so they could play basketball in the main hall ). The health and hygiene is awful - no soap of hand gel throughout the building for a week. You have to ask to have the steamroom and sauna switched on at least an hour before you want it and they jet spray the changing rooms while peoples clothes are hanging up. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

The CEO really couldn't give a toss - his response to numerous complaints was effectively like it or lump it.

Most the staff are moronic idiots who care more about reading their mobile phones than the customer.

My girlfriend paid an all inclusive price of £50 per month but has now joined Freedom Leisure with the same package for £39.

AVOID SOUTHWICK AND LANCING GYMS LIKE THE PLAGUE !!!!!!!!!!!

I got off the treadmill after a 5k run the other day and the walk back to the changing rooms afterwards felt like being on one of those moving walkway things at an airport :lolol:

I had been 3 times in my life, that was until a month ago. I have now been 4 times each week since I joined a month ago, and I am loving it !

Don't really know what's changed, maybe the fact I am now 40+ and realised I need to do something.

Would never of dreamt about doing so much excersise before, but something just clicked in my brain, and now I can't get enough of it !

I guess it depends what you go for. To beef up, or get a cardio vascular work out or maybe a combination. I used to go a bit when I was younger and playing rugby, but didn't really like the vibe if that makes sense. Can't see myself going back as I don't want muscle and as for the cardio, I prefer to be outside.

Keep it up though. We're similar age and if you give up, it'll be harder to get back into it.

That really surprises me tbh, i've been using Lancing gym for about 8 years, and not had any problems in that time.

Impulse have spent a lot of money over the last few months, updating the equipment and facilities.

I've been thinking about this for some time, I was always one of the 'eat what you like and never put weight on' people but family life, home cooked meals etc has put an end to that! I've got the previously mentioned lancing gym near home and one not to far from work in east worthing near to the train station. I look forward to a beer when I finish work but know this needs to stop. How can I get motivated?

I'd never even stepped foot in a gym until I started uni last year. At home in Sussex, I would go for long runs and cycles to keep fit at weekends and during the summer. Here in Teesside the weather's crap, the roads are congested and there's no peaceful routes to go on a jog. £120 for a 12-month gym membership means I can keep fit without getting run over or dying of hypothermia.

And this year, I'm trying to build some muscle and upper-body strength, which you can't really do peddling along on your bike. A necessary evil is the gym.

I have tried to exercise all my life, in fact spent 2 years as a fitness instructor in reigate from 18-20 yrs but as I have got older I find gyms restricting and as I have become more and more anti social I find these places have too much of an open door policy for the yoghurt and yoga crew and even worse, their bloody kids seem just as welcome as PAYING members. I prefer to devise more interesting ways of training. I used Riptide on the seafront for years but it got too busy and the area you could use the heavy bag seemed to be permanently occupied by a rather odd looking fella teaching steam-punk looking geeks how to meditate or twirl around with some kind of wooden sword thing. They seemed to frown on anything vaguely involving punching. Pity.

The environment around us provides great spaces for exercise this coupled with weights and exercise bike is good enough for me. Plus I don't have to deal with fitness instructors.

They've just spent a load of money at Southwick as well but if there's any issues then their standard answers are "oh well" and "go and use Lancing" !!!!!

Too anti-social for gyms. Bought a pedometer and took up walking a few weeks ago. Average 20,000 steps (15km) a day and have lost almost a stone in first month. Gonna be harder to keep it up now the clocks are back and frozen pavements on the way :(

That's exactly what I was doing, finishing work at 6, going to the shop buying 6 stellas and that's me for the night. Thought I would give the gym a try, costs me 30 quid a month, a lot less than 6 stellas a night and I feel good for it !

The gym I go to is full of "meat heads" but in no way are they intimidating, in fact quite the opposite. They are knowledgeable and don't mind giving advice. In a weird way I prefer that than being surrounded by fit women watching me suffer after 30 mins on the cross trainer !

Just for balance, I use Lancing Manor & it's great. There is a very rude woman on the desk, but the facilities are good & lots of parking space.

Go every mon, tue and Wednesday. Always a struggle going to gym after a long day at work, but it feels good after.

Oh no, I wouldn't recommend that! You'd twist your ankles in a second. Jog up to the Downs, CityPArks, Hove outdoor Gym, Long seafront paths. It's all there people!

Beach fit on Shoreham beach. Only a small gym but plenty of Cardio and weights cant believe how much I have bulked up in only 3 months with the right training and advice.
