With Veltman committing to us for two more seasons, Groß brilliant at RB in games like the Liverpool home game, Milner available as cover having played 90+ games at full back, Tariq Lamptey looking fit pre-season and Offiah showing promise; do we really need a new right back?

With Boey and Livramento rumours going cold, it seems we’ve moved our focus to LB with Bassey discussions rumoured to be happening.

Lamptey is made of cheese. Milner and Gross are too slow to cope with pacy wingers. Offiah has never made any inroads to claiming a starting RB place so seeing him in pre-season photos and suddenly thinking he's good enough to play starting RB is a bit silly.

So yes. We need a good RB. Anyone even half as good as Estupinian on that right side would be nice.

Yes.

We need 8 defenders in total anyway. Maybe Milner counts as 1 of the 8 - at a push.

And Lamptey could leave. Karbownik probably will go also.

2 defenders needed I reckon - and 1 of those will be a RB.

We’re in Europe, meaning more games, more travel, more opportunities for injury.

I’d argue that we absolutely need a right back, a left back and a LCB (or one player that can convincingly cover both LCB and left-back)

We’re fine with our first team fit, but slightly exposed if we get a couple of simultaneous injuries in the back line.

I think we'll need more than 8: 9 even 10 to get us through what will almost certainly will be over 50 games. How many of those are covered by DS players (eg Offiah, Turns) we'll have to see.

Milner has played RB. He's played everywhere except CB and in goal. However, when not playing in midfield, he has been used far more as a left back than on the right. He's a great squad signing because as well as his vast experience, he can provide cover all over the pitch.

Offiah is naturally a centre half, not a right back. However, I think that @sparkie is correct. First and foremost, we are just a bit short of defenders. We know that whoever we sign will need to be adaptable, as most of the squad are. If things go true to form, we'll sign somebody that many fans will question because we already seem well stocked in their position and then, as the season unfolds we'll understand what the thinking was.

No we don't. Veltman, Milner, Gross, maybe Lamptey and Offiah if we don't loan him.
It would be nice to have a Pervis MK2 on the right, and I'm sure we are looking for one, but priority is a left footed CB, a left back to cover Pervis and possibly a destroyer in the middle if RDZ feels it necessary after Moises departure.
To be honest if we signed Bassey and Kudus, plus a couple of kids, I think we'd be fine. Ideally we'd also add a top class, ball playing, left footed CB. But I don't feel like we are scrambling about in the dirt and that's with last season barely over.
I'd love us to sign Boey who looks like he could be a real player, but I don't think we need to overspend or overstretch ATM.

I’d say we don’t NEED one, but to improve we should be looking at bringing someone in. Veltman, lamptey, gross, Milner, and even Caicedo have all player there so numbers wise it’s not a priority signing but if I was planning the recruitment I’d look to find a lamptey upgrade and potentially move him on. That would mean we have 2 specialist RB’s, who hopefully aren’t injury prone, and a couple of back up options.

That said, if lamptey stays and we don’t bring someone in then it’s no huge issue for me.

To me it depends on Lamptey. What are the dr's saying? Can we reliably say he's now fit and as likely to stay fit as anyone else? If that is true and many will argue that is a stretch given his injury record, he's easily a good enough back up right back.

If it's touch and go, we should be getting someone in. We really don't want to be trying to work out which centre mid we could shuffle over at the business end of next season again
