Up and Coming Sunny Portslade
with plenty of comments about how “Arsenal were there for the taking”

Yep, I was probably one who posted such a sentiment. It is a bit more nuanced than has been played on this thread.

Should we have a right to beat established Top 6 clubs? Of course not. That IS the sort of thing that Dave from Essex who has never left the tv bar of the Dog and Duck in his Man U replica shirt would say. It's obviously nonsense.

Should we beat a side who are one place above us in the league, in reasonably poor form and who we took six points off in the previous season, at home? If we want to stay up then we should be.

Think all club fans have expectations, but after our history, it's quite remarkable that some fans just don't get it. Be thankful for wonderful community football club punching well above their weight. Enjoy the ride, it could be a lot worse.

Well said [emoji123]

I think anyone that answered “ Nope we should be doing better “ maybe like myself looked back at the recent results against Fulham and especially Sheffield United and thought yes.
We haven’t managed to beat any team below us in the PL this season, and obviously only just nicked a draw against Sheffield Utd.

Its about nuance - as it normally !. Regardless of recent results the things that make us proud and positive about the club are still true (A fan like us as owner, investment in the stadium/womens football/academy/community, a long term plan, a progressive outlook, some smart administrators) . We can argue that we're punching above our weight of course - we don't overspend on wages yet we're in the Premier League for a 4th season in a row - obviously thats true also yet yet yet...this season is obviously a disappointment. Bloom will know that. Everyone knows that. NSC knows that. I know that. The results whether thats down to Potter, or the finishing or the defence or the investment in players just don't reflect some of the potential or expectation given how we've played, XG, youngsters like Lamptey or White or those rare occasions when its obviously clicked (eg: newcastle, man utd, liverpool) .
I think you think that whether you're or a die hard War Years veteran, a more casual recent season ticket holder, a recent teenage fan or lets face it - every single pundit in the land.
Personally i think its still fine margins. Only 5-6 more points and the conversation on here would be radically different. But its not and its right Potter is under pressure. With his record then he deserves scrutiny. But he's also right to point to the fact that its fine margins (he did in the press conference yesterday) and only a few months ago he finished 2019/20 with our biggest ever points total.
And we start 2021 outside (just) the bottom three...
Happy NY everyone !

I think everyone thinks we should be doing better - including Potter. Not everyone thinks a change in manager though is the answer including for now Bloom - therein lies the rub.

Conversely, what if the seasoned veterans are reading the situation correctly and can smell a relegation a mile off, what if they can see that the manager is losing his way and the players are losing faith?
Is there any possibility whatsoever that they might not be ‘over-reacting’ but many others are simply not grasping the situation in hand?

Just a thought.
That’s exactly how I’m thinking, I’ve seen it all before. It’s obvious and the man even admits he’s struggling at this level. Rather than take the club down he should walk like Hyypia did and leave with some dignity and respect for trying.

I think I was really trying to answer the thread title again after a few recent posts on here.
Not the best of thread titles TBH and probably confused a few people.

It would have been interesting to see this thread without the misleading title and a title of - Should we be doing better?
Vote yes or no.

I have absolutely no confidence in Potter being able to save us from relegation.
We have some very hard games coming up and quite frankly, if we can’t put Sheffield, WBA etc. away, what chance do we have against better teams.
Same old story week in week out and I really don’t think he knows what to do about it.
I don’t think ‘ entitled fan base’ comes into it. Our home record, in particular, is shocking and as fans, most of us surely expected us to being doing better than we are. That doesn’t mean we are ‘ entitled.’ The dismay at our results felt by many of us will surely be shared by Bloom, the BOD and Potter himself.

Its very different. Hyppia - far more of an inexperienced coach than Potter - took a team that had been in the play offs for the past two seasons to relegation strugglers in 4 months. (admittedly with godawful recruitment). Even Hughton when he came in only just kept that team up.

Potter though is managing a team thats not yet in the bottom three, and only a few points off where most fans would be pretty comfortable.
Its obvious and he acknowledges it, that its disappointing, its not at all obvious that he should resign/be sacked although clearly a lot of fans have now concluded thats the case in the last few weeks.

PS: I can't find anywhere in the press conference where he says he is "struggling at this level" which implies he thinks and acknowledges he's not up to it.. He just says its tough and the most "challenging time of his career".

I recently found out about his appalling defensive record at Swansea and looked a little deeper at what their fans had said about him.

A lot of positives but it's definitely a worry that despite saying we're learning these concerns of Swansea have passed onto Brighton

Picking the wrong team to start, then making 2 subs at half time.

...dropping Mulder when he was playing well, probably putting doubts in his mind.

How many times have we only played well for one half. ?

Opposition managers change their tactics, especially away games (normally at half time,) they come out, and start to dominate, he doesn’t seem to counteract these changes, until it’s too late.

He took the Swansea job, where the club were completely skint and were shifting out in one summer their better players.

Leon Britton
Ki Sung-yueng
Angel Rangel
Lukasz Fabianski
Alfie Mawson
Borja Baston
Roque Mesa
Andre Ayew
Kyle Bartley

They finished 10th in a division where a phalanx of clubs are throwing £10m's in attempting promotion.
