Do fat people feel guilty when they go into macdonalds?

Corn syrup/sucralose (E955, splenda)/fructose, aspartame, bones, teeth, sleep, phosphoric acid, salt, empty calories, colourings, E211....

all sorts of reasons.

Mostly because if I don't think it's good enough for me to drink/eat I won't palm it onto my kids. We have an unlimited supply of water here and the occasional proper fruit juice (no squash and we don't have cow milk either)

bet the Starry houshold is a bundle of fun......

i expect tv is banned too yes?

Tastes nice though ;)

In all seriousness, I have to wonder about all these claims of it being so bad for you (although I've only my own personal experience to draw on).

I drink at least a can of Coke per day (usually more than one) and have done for many years, I'm a comfortable weight (about 12 stone, and 6'5'' tall) and have never had so much as a filling in my life (only time I've had to have teeth out was when I had braces fitted as a child.

I admit that I'm not as fit as I'd like to be, but being as I'm not allowed to go to the gym and I can't run very far, its somewhat difficult to alter that to any dramatic effect, and what I drink will certainly have no bearing either way.

From my experience (limited and biased as it admittedly is), I think a lot of damage that people sustain from drinking Coke and the like is due to their own genetics and metabolism as much as anything contained within the drink itself. Either that, or they're attached to a vat of Coke on a permanent drip.

To my way of thinking, moderation and common sense are better than denying them outright, but different people obviously have their opinions, and it's not my place to judge them.

Maybe so.

I've always been fairly slim, and never been able to put weight on to any real degree (although I eat and drink so much that you'd think it inevitable).

I don't really worry too much about trying to alter it. Ultimately, I'm happy at the weight I am, and that should be all that counts for anyone.

See, I don't think it tastes nice!As a very rare once in a while treat it's OK, but I couldn't drink a can a day even if I wanted to.

Moderation is the key - like you say. You are a grown man (I assume!) and big enough to make your own choices - eat what you want, drink what you want and such. I feel as a parent; and my children are pretty young (they don't get sweets, crisps, any processed foods etc.) I need to guide them towards healthier choices. To teach them what is good and what not so good and should be kept as a rare treat. They go to birthday parties and are ecstatic because they get treats they don't get at home and I want to keep it that way.

When they have a paper round or whatever they can spend their money on a can of pop if it makes them happy. Until then, I'll be providing water and juice and not a whole lot else!

It IS bad for you. Please don't feel you 'ave to lose teeth and gain excess weight before feeling worried. We have the highest heart disease rate in Europe on these shores (Scotland edges England, just) and many smokers say they're fine despite smoking 20/30/40 a day. However, I can tell a smoker at first glance by condition of hair, skin, teeth etc. To a lesser degree it shows with fizzy drinks, which , for the record, The Cap'in despises. Tastes nice? Experience a wider choice of beverages and give yourself time to become accustomed to 'em and you'd change yer view. The Cap'in can't bare 'juice drinks, fizzy drinks, alco' pops etc, bad quality meat, the crappy veg they half-heartedly serve in pubs and tacky 'English restaurants'...no wonder the kids hate veg so often!!!

Crunchy veg, proper top quality meat, fresh juice, wine and a good balance wins the day every time.

Oh, and a bottle or three of rum an' whisky with a soothing pipe, obviously.

What drinks would the Cap'n recommend that I try (when answering, please bear in mind that I don't drink alcohol in any form)?

Fresh juice...orange, grapefruit, tomato &/or apple, peach, pear, grape, mango.

Nice fresh glass of properly filtered / mineral water (complete with three ice cubes for a summer's day. Bliss.

If you get juice, the 'nectar' drinks for sale in Turkish grocery shops are very nice and are especially good for peach and mango.

You can, of course, acquire a smoothie device and crush your own cocktail of frsh fruit.

How's that, shipmate Ronaldinho?

Fat people should be banned from public places, like smoking. Both are a drain on the NHS, smell and look unpleasant.

I'd have to disagree there.

I love normal (red) Coke, but I cannot stand the Diet variety (nor can I stand Pepsi in any form).

On July 2nd, a new variety called 'Orange Coke' is being officially 'released' (although I think some places stock it already), which I'm not sure whether I like the sound of or not.

Yes but your opinion doesn't count because you don't drink beer! :drink::jester:

Back to the original question, probably not...at least not more than anyone else who is about to fill their face with something passed off as food but which has almost zero nutritional value...they are just a good advert for what can happen to you if it is one of the mainstays of your diet.
