Do Brighton really need to increase the capacity of the Amex?

If we have serious intentions of getting into the Prem then 30,000 is the absolute minimum we would be able to get away with. If we wanted to do something in the Prem other than just survive we'd need an even bigger capacity. 40,000 anyone?

wigan have no were near 30,000 fans so dont think our stadium would be to small now, that said its hard to get a ticket at the moment so would love the expansion

Wigan aren't exactly doing anything in the Prem, are they, though?

Neither here nor there
We all worried during the wilderness years that the club's fan base might be in terminal decline, there was a generation of lost fans, that we'd lost our way just as the Premiership exerted its stranglehold on the game.

In fact the whole struggle seems to have created a pressure cooker effect where all the ex-fans, floating supporters and curious onlookers have come together in one huge burst, joining those who never lost the faith at Withdean.

I can't remember a time when there was so much interest in the club locally, except maybe in 1983 for a few weeks. There are 1.5 million people in Sussex and if the club continues its momentum on and off the pitch I see no reason why we shouldn't attract 30,000 of them fairly regularly.

If we go up then yea, East top and corners will be needed. The rush for tickets if we get to the Prem will be mental.

If we have a mid table season then id just do the corners till we go up. So many people I know bought season tickets because they were worried they wouldn't get a match by match ticket. If the ground was increased to 30K we could actually see a drop off in ST numbers as there wouldn't be the need to guarantee a seat with a ST. Its a fine line the club are walking, all the time the capacity is fairly low there will be the need to guarantee your seat and thus we should keep our crowds high. The club know this though im sure.

of course we don't need to fill it based on this season, but the best thing about our club is that we are FORWARD thinking...what a great time to be an Albion supporter!

To me it is a sign of intent. We EXPECT to be in the Prem at some point so we WILL need 30k

Yes we do need to expand it. No point getting to the premiership (this is surely Blooms goal ?) and have to turn fans away.

and what we will, not being funny but what are we going to do in the prem, if we got there and that is a big if, we would be around the bottom for the first few years.

Most teams in the prem have a unbelievable amount of money, so unless we get sold to a owner with empty pockets the best we can hope for in the next 10 years in the prem is mid table, which personally i would love.

Wigan have done amazing in the prem, given there size

I think we DO need to do it. Our games are selling out (not the clubs fault if they do not turn up). There is also 1000 on the waiting list and an assumption by some non regulars already that 'You can't get tickets'.

If you find that the stadium is not selling out then offer loads of offers- kids for a £1 and £10 entry for students with NUS, think how many students live on campus on the doorstep of the ground. Also, if we have a 30,000 stadium and some games it has 24,000 in then so what!?

The ground looks incomplete at the moment and I cannot believe that Bloom would spend 100 mill on a stadium for it to be left as it is. We are also winning back loads of fans who have not been for years or new fans, once it is ingrained in their regular Saturday practice then attendances will rise.

Let us not forget that we are at the very start of making Brighton a football city again after years and years in the wilderness.

This! To suggest anything different is crazy IMHO.

We have to aim for the PL, average gate for PL is 30000+.

We've sold out ever league game so far.

That wont happen though will it. IF we went up at some point, the extra tier and corners could be completed in the summer break. The builders would be in the day after the season ended and 3 months would be more than ample to get the job done.

I don't think we need it yet. I think we need a properly working ticket exchange first, and wait until (if) we get promoted to the Premier League. Can we put the planning application in now and then stick the seats in in the summer after we get promoted? Surely that would be the best solution? How long would the planning permission be valid for?

Yes we do need it as there is a waiting list for season tickets and casual visitor. Worth noting that it's the allocation to visiting fans that is not selling out.

I think im right in saying you have got 3 years to actually do the work once you get the planning permission. Cant see any harm in getting the ok and then waiting till/if we go up.

As stated by turienzo's lovechild we do need to prove that the transport can at the very least handle the current full capacity before they will let us add another 8,000 seats though, this is the real key.

Answer to OP... a definite 'YES'... I presume you are a newbie with no idea of our history, and the fact that we HAVE sold out the home end for both league games so far... wake up and smell the coffee... Brighton are back...

Three years... and yes, I suspect this is what the club intend to do.
