Do Brighton really need to increase the capacity of the Amex?

'cant even fill' I think that's a bit unfair, considering for home league games so far, all home tickets have been sold - its up to season ticket holders to turn up though.

What worries me is that for these high profile games, leeds, palace, west ham etc, the crows will fall as there are a considerable number of child season tickets, and i cant imagine every parent wanting to take their child to an evening game, on a school night, with the posibility of mixing with those fans after the game.

ees complicated no?

not yet but if we do well this season(mid table +) I can see us selling out the 22,500, I think this season has seen old fans & new fans buy season tickets and next season we will prob see the 'fake' fans buy season tickets plus more family members of current season ticket holders join as i know 5 - 7 family members looking to get one next season

I think we will go in for planning permission so we have it, doesnt mean we have to do anything with it, but unless we go up, i dont see us increasing it to Max straight away, maybe just a few seats here and there corners in the north for instance.

Reminds me of the Argus letters page a few years ago. "Why do Brighton need a 22,500 seat stadium at Falmer when they can't even fill Withdean with its 8,000 seats" etc etc.

If we have serious ambitions to play at a higher level then 30,000 is about right.

How many of us are currently going home to friends and family and gibbering like crazed 10-year-olds about how great the Amex is, often to people who would probably come along too if they thought there was a realistic chance of a ticket?

I think the we should see what crowds we are getting next season- because I think naturally once the new ground feel good factor runs down crowds will start to level out a bit. I think 2/3 seasons down the line we would be averaging 16/17k and we dont want a half empty ground.

Have you thought that the away team hasnt sold out 2500 as well, i think both brought about 1500 so add that to the attendence we would only be 1000 off max capacity for the blackpool game and i know some people who tried to buy a ticket for the game but was informed was sold out, meaning season ticket holders didnt turn up, the club have to put something in for this as like people said be games when they cant make it or away etc, we need a full stadium every game as always plenty of people who want to go eg 4000 plus waiting list for season tickets, so yes we do need that 30000 stadium

I agree with the tone of your post (a dose of reality) but genuinely think we'd need a lot more seasons of shite before crowds dip to that level. Reading are still getting gates of 17,000 (although they did have a good season last time out) and we have always been a bigger club than them. And as Monkey Man says, there are LOADS of people who still want to go, and that includes non-football fans who just want to experience it.

For now though, 22,500 seems only slightly short of ideal. It's a shame there aren't 24,000 seats and it's a shame the partition of the south stand hasn't been tested yet, but better this than a 30,000 all seater and only half the season ticket holders.

purely to see the satdium finished, yes

to use the old cliche on here - this! , if it is just filling in the corners that means they can sort out all the cladding and what have you at the back then it's definitely needed.

as for selling them , we currently have the best chance to get fans in - sensible ticket pricing and the ability to get away from games quickly and we'll have a strong chance to sell it out week in,week out (oh and those who have bought tickets actually turning up of course :p)

I'd love to know how the club compiles it figures. Last weekend there were a large amount of empty seats in The west stand lower. I don't believe they were all season ticket holder's seats due to their location unless it was one very large family or a large company/ office day out. Even at The Withdean we were led to believe certain games were sell outs when there were clearly empty seats. please don't think I'm moaning, just raising a question. Can't wait for tonight's game so I'm leaving now to by my stripes.
Lots of love

We sold out our season tickets and there's a waiting list for more. Wait until mid-September when the majority of season ticket holders will be back from holidays, etc... and we will see the gates rise. I can't see many tickets going spare after that.

Providing we have a decent season (around mid table), we could easily make 26-27k per game next season, maybe more. IF we have a fantastic season (promotion or a near-miss) we would sell out 30k (the home seats anyway) almost every game.

We gained a lot of interest from new fans & old fans when the stadium was built, however, so many people I know are taking interest in us this season because the following things are getting us noticed; the way we play, the players we are signing (especially CMS), Gus Poyet & our good start in the league. Those things, in addition to the fact that we are in the Championship & getting more TV and radio time, have propelled us to the forefront of people's minds who would never have considered going to see Brighton play regularly. I can only see our fan base growing.

If we have serious intentions of getting into the Prem then 30,000 is the absolute minimum we would be able to get away with. If we wanted to do something in the Prem other than just survive we'd need an even bigger capacity. 40,000 anyone?

I think the fact we have sold 18,000 season tickets leads to a bit of a paradox. It means that a lot of people who would only come four or five times a season are not coming because (similar to the first few years at withdean) they assume they won't be able to get a ticket.

I think that in a few years if we're still doing well we'll see a decline in STHs (maybe down to 10,000-12,000) but an increase in people apying on the day or a couple of days before. I guess the net effect of that will be that we'll see smaller crowds for the less attractive games and sell outs for the bigger matches - as opposed to a general 19-22.5k we'll see all season this season.

no bad thing in my opinion - will give a lot of blokes who would like to take their kids but can;t at the moment the opportunity to get them into the Albion and we'll recapture a lost generation of fans (we've already lost two already).

I think a 27-30k ground in the Championship would sell out five or six times a season and be two thirds/three quarters full most of the time which is a pretty good effort for a club that spent the best part of 25 years pretty much in the wilderness.
