That’s where I’m at (still). I think the results will come, but no mistake, the pressure at this level with the money on the line is ridiculous, so the longer we go without getting the odd win puts the manager completely in the spotlight.

And I’m totally 100% on board with Tony’s, Dan’s, and GP’s philosophy in terms of blooding young players. Lamptey, Connolly, Alzate, White, Molumby, Sanchez..

I think we’re now starting to see real improvements to existing players, which is surely a sign of good coaching. Solly has gone to another level this season and is reborn is his new role. Ditto Biss, who was lucky to get a run of games under Hughton (kept out by Dale... I remember having some arguments with folk on that.

I don’t think the development of the younger players can be denied as a massive plus in GP’s favour.

However, they were all a year younger when Hughton was here, and Stephens remains the right call at the time. Bissouma has come on leaps and bounds under GP.

Bissouma is a lot more reliable in possession now, whereas under Hughton he frequently lost the ball cheaply.

As I have said numerous times, I had no problem with Hughton’s defensive tactics, which were necessary at the time. We survived with a bottom three budget, which was an achievement in itself despite poor purchases.

Potter is now suffering from the same recruitment challenges, and also achieved in season 1.

However, it would be a disaster IMO if we were relegated, and I don’t know of many ‘master plans/strategies’, which involve effectively starting a journey from the beginning.

It really is a massive shame Nunez chose Benfica.

We remain very close to being a good little team, but just need something more.

I have no idea why I like you, we hardly agree on anything football related on the pitch :lolol:

We will not be destroying Arsenal btw. I’ll take a point with a fantastic defensive performance and us scoring a worldie goal. See how low my sights are set?

My belief in destroying a team has completely vanished.

Sadly so have my belief in maintaining the stink eye on Arsenal.
Lose by an odd goal, with a cheated by VAR thrown in for good measure.

A very expensive “something more” which is not going to happen though

Do you remember that 1-1 with Palace last season with Mooy running the show. Nothing has changed since then.

Potter deserves credit for having the team prepared after then resumption of the PL during lockdown. Prior to that it was very inconsistent.

As I point out previously - other coaches have figured out how to play against Potter's and some are doing it more effectively than others. The squad he has at his disposal now are much, much better than a bottom three squad - Lallana and Wellbeck are big signings and Bissouma, White and Lampety are all being linked with top six (or top European) clubs - not to mention that Dunk has long been touted as being capable of adding to his single English cap.

The jury is out on Potter - I have had doubts about him being a 'talented and adaptive coach' (I see little evidence of adaptability) - and this season will probably be a make or break for him. The big problem is that Brighton are being dragged into the relegation mire because the team is soft and are losing points from advantageous positions. The style of play implemented by Potter needs space outside a relegation struggle - the problem to date is that he has been incapable of getting the team to that point so far. Losing to Arsenal will see and increasing gap between Brighton and the teams above them and could see the club battling with Fulham and WBA to avoid two relegation spots for the rest of the season.

if you watched all our games you would know that if potter is anything he is adaptive, our style is continuously evolving.

and all those players you mention, for on reason or another, would not play for old man hughts

Apparently just a different type of shit now [emoji6][emoji23]

To me, we’re still close to destroying an opponent, just hope it’s Arsenal.....

Bigger than we realise? Not at all. Tony is as sharp as they come.

Detailed analysis of football teams’ and players’ strengths and weaknesses it literally how Tony Bloom continues to make his millions.

Probably right, in fact myself and friends have said it every game, but I do still believe it will happen.

Just like us all ten minutes before kick off :) football fans live of hope.

We do, ten minutes in I get arghhh from my son, says same as before I nod and we sit there with the vain hope a spark of life will turn us into that complete performance full of running, control, decisiveness and goals goals goals.

Resigned we move on to the next game. One day.

On the pace/slow play point, I think it's just because we're arguably trying to play a style of football that is slightly beyond us. Quick, incisive short passing is devastating when City do it but we just don't have the players for it. Looking at Leeds or even Villa, they seem to have systems which play to their squad's strengths. I'm not sure we do. For example, against Sheff Utd we knocked endless crosses in to a box without a target man on the pitch. With our players I'd suggest we'd do better playing counter attacking football, using Welbeck, Maupay and Trossard on the break.

So if we had one striker target a two week head start on Benfica why isn’t he in an Albion shirt? ... according to the agent we started bidding at £12m for a £25m player. Of course we can’t take the agent at face value yet Benfica went straight in at £20m plus ???

Nunez has been tapped up by Man City, agent will be aware of this and been advised a season or 2 at Benefica will make it easier to get him to City then moving to another PL club and City vastly over paying

My OH says watching us atm is like watching a training match. Hard to argue with the lack of pace and intensity. Seems a world away from our performances against Man Utd and Newcastle

Ok i will bite.I believe Potter doesn't want his team rushing forward to quickly, because i hoofball upfield leads us short in defence because half the Brighton team are in the opposition half. Thus making it more likely we will concede a goal. So he would rather keep the shape of the team to repel any attack that is likely to come from the opposition. And we are as slow as shit.

Bite? F***in' hell!

You seem to have picked up the ridiculous idea that I was advocating hoofball (a dreadful word not worth the space it takes up). Please read my posts and see what I am saying before replying with a complete non-sequitur!
I'll spell it out for you:
* Our passing game is fine;
* Passing out from the back is fine (as long as our players recognise the occasional cases where row Z is appropriate - occasionally it is!)
* The passes we are making are fine - BUT ..........
......... when player A passes to player B, the ball is traveling from A to B too slowly; it's the right pass to make, but the ball needs to reach player B before the opposition has had time to stroll into position to pressurise player B and keep their shape.
Same passes that we're making at the moment, not hoofball :)facepalm:), just make the ball travel the same distance, in the same direction, but quicker!

Geez! - some people can be hard work!

An observation on all things passing, I agree with your point on speed but have noticed our players seem to lack the ability to make basic 30 yard passes to switch play. Countless times this season and last have I seen a centre mid on the ball with all the time in the world and rather than hit a relatively simple (for a professional footballer) 30 yard pass to March, lamptey or a roaming forward who are in acres of space to exploit instead decide to play a sideways or backwards pass 5-10 metres.

We are appalling at stretching teams, have this in mind the next time you watch us play, very very frustrating

There are two ways to improve the pace at which we play, simplistically. One is pass and move at greater intensity. The other is to play players who are quick. Either we move our brains more quickly or our feet. It won't result in the same style of play, but i'd suggest we look at getting more pace in to the team. You see what a difference Lamptey makes. I'd argue that any future transfer over the next season or two should have acceleration and speed as key assets. We look MUCH better when we attack at pace.
