Allow Brighton plenty of possession in harmless areas - tick
Send Brighton down pointless cul-du-sacs -tick
Protect the CB’s - tick
Await the moment Brighton over commit to counter & grab the winner - tick.

An age old game-plan - stay solid, frustrate, play on the counter. Hodgson and Mourinho made careers out of it.

'Villa's new boss wants them to be a possession based outfit eventually'

Now why would that be I wonder?

So his lot can also be 'caught dicking around with it at the back' ?

Fact is, in Potter we're in a great position regarding playing style. I love it.

There's no greater sight that Dunk to Duffy to goalie to ..... wait for it .... Dunk. Warms the soul.

It was far more progressive and creative last season, borne out by stats.

This season, in most games/halves, toothless possession.

A good position for now Wolves & the lot up the road were miles behind us a few weeks ago.

those teams are catching and will be over taking us because they have better balance, ie attacking intent and players who can & will shoot.

I don't know about that really. All teams go through good spells and bad spells. Wolves have basically got Jiminez back, that is their better balance. In terms of Palace, is conceding 3 at Burnley a better balance, they were a hair's breadth from losing the game. They had 4 draws in a row until they beat City - which was of course a fantastic result, but an early red card helped.

I dunno, easy to look over the fence and see greener grass I reckon. Things can turn around pretty quickly in this league.

At the risk of being cast out: I like how Palace are playing this season. Compared to what they were serving up under Hodgson at least.

So do I. I mock Parish but in one window he's clearly made a great management decision, allied to the usual blueprint of a load of forwards with blinding pace.

No way will Chelsea sell Gallagher next summer. But by then he'd have delivered 38 games of relentless pace and harrying.

THings do change quickly . . . . When is Welbeck expected to be off his trolley and in boots?

There seems to be a timeline for managers, getting to a point where pragmatism kicks in and the rot starts . . . . or they can kick it into touch and press on . . .
