[Other Sport] Djokovic held at airport

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Wait till you find out how many yellow fever / tetanus etc vaccines I've had in my life time

Us oldies have had smallpox jabs, diptheria, polio, tetanus (several), typhoid, tuberculosis, flu (annually) pneumonia and shingles.
At 73, I've survived them all.

They are all as mad as each other some great quotes from the Times report

https://apple.news/AU5HtpTFsQL6e8wrkWwhbzA

Barnaby Joyce, the deputy prime minister, said: “If he hasn’t filled out the forms appropriately then he’s taking the sovereign capacity of another nation for a joke. He’s got to understand you’ve been graced by God with a certain talent but that certain talent does not rise above the sovereign rights of other nations.”
He told the BBC: “If you wander off into our country and don’t tell us the truth, we’re going to kick your arse out of here as well.”

At the press conference Djokovic’s father compared his son’s plight to that of Jesus as Serbia’s politicians, sporting personalities, media and celebrities rallied around the player.
“Jesus was crucified on the cross . . . but he is still alive among us. They are trying to crucify and belittle Novak,” Srdjan Djokovic said. “Novak is Serbia and Serbia is Novak. They are trampling over Serbia and by doing that, they are trampling on the Serbian people.”

I don't for a moment believe him to be selfish or arrogant enough, but can you imagine the reaction had Joe Root found himself in this scenario at the start of the Ashes tour and his dad had come out and said this? He'd have been laughed out of the room, and rightly so.

tbh I have only skimmed the thread and haven't really been paying attention, but I do have a bit of a problem with the Vaccine passport concept.

It seems that proof of Vaccination is increasingly being seen as the only necessary evidence to stop the spread of the virus.
I don't like the idea of the option to supply a validated negative test being dropped in preference of proof of a couple of jabs.

I've had the virus, been double jabbed and had the booster.
I'd rather be in a room full of people who have tested negative, than a room full of fully vaccinated people, who haven't.

Room full of both would be a better preference?

The tests are self validated. You can declare any result you like.

look mate , i'm of the attitude that i'm willing to get on with it , im x2 vaxed , unwillingly.

i know numerous unvaxed people in sydney my age who currently have covid who say it is just like a bad cold ......i also know 6 people in their late 50's to late 60's who died within days of having the second AZ jab .......it's a load of old pipe , no one gets out alive .....lets just get on with it....!!

Good for them. You may be happy to die yourself, and soon, but you don’t get to unwittingly kill loads of others. That’s the point, the bigger picture - you do get this isn’t just about you and your circle of friends who mercifully haven’t been badly affected?

I read today that amongst many other odd-ball beliefs and acts….he sets a place at the dining table for his dog. I draw the line at this.

Eh ?
He's from Serbia, which is 1500km from the Baltic.

I've nothing against Djokovic, I know nothing of the bloke apart from he's good at tennis, but I am rather hostile to anti-vax twats. There's some people who cannot be vaccinated for genuine medical reasons, those who choose not to be vaccinated are making their lives more dangerous.

he meant Balkans

It was very well worded. He didn't say they died because of the vaccine but he strongly implied it. He must know at least 6 million 50 to 60 year old's, which is some friends network.

on the other hand i know no one , personally , who has died of covid , including a 72 year old relative who has had silicosis for 5 years .......didn't even go to hospital. mind you he was x2 jabbed and boostered.

So, in the NSC anti-vaxx corner we have:

sydney who is vaccinated "unwillingly" (did they tie you down and force jab you?) but still posting things that no one can possibly check because it's all hearsay rather than documented fact.

Desperate Albion Dan Roland who vaccinated his own kids just in case, because why not hedge your bets.

"Pro vax" unvaccinated Mustafa who was "immune" (and then caught Covid) and flounced off when called out on it.

BeHereNow who was going to jack in his season ticket because of Covid passports but has apparently been attending games whilst unvaccinated.

What you all seem to have in common is massive hypocrisy and a desire to just crack on as normal, because there is a total lack of conceptual empathy that actually you may be putting other, far more vulnerable, people at risk.

i got vaxed in the hope i would be able to get on a plane to visit a dying relative ......i have no need to discuss my medical history with you but having had 3 near death experiences already and having reached my mid 50's ill take my chances from here on in ........easy enough for you to hop on your high horse , you can go where ever you want , we have been locked down here for nearly 2 years in which time 2 of my and my wife's parents have died .......we could not travel to see them in time , that will never change .....

Novak can get ****ed , if he plays i would expect widespread unrest and rightly so ............the bell ends up stairs are taking the piss out of us $ 16 .00 - $ 29.00 for a RAT test here ....!! they are free everywhere else , Morrisons words were " we can't undercut members of the private sector who have gone out on a limb to supply rapid antigen tests the public".......i.e profit before people. it's a global agenda....$$$

Oki Doki, well I don’t know about Oz but over here we have lots of unvaccinated blockers of NHS beds preventing people with other needs from being admitted. You ‘getting on with it’ is a potential threat to me so if you don’t mind I will continue to support the rules as they are.

ah well you see i reckon if you don't have the vax then you don't get a bed......harsh but fair.

As I have said before, I am pro vax but also pro personal choice.

I cannot disprove the quote above, and you cannot prove it, but I will call it as I see it………….absolute Ball Crap.

Unlikely it was me that banned you but, if it was, I can't give you three days back. I'm not Dr Who.

Your "record" resets after a period of time that is significantly shorter than 2 years.

In that case, can I have my two minor infractions from 2011 & 2013 removed please?

Room full of both would be a better preference?

Why?

If everyone has tested negative (genuinely) why is being double vaxxed better?
Surely it's irrelevant?

I understand that being vaccinated helps slow the spread and I'm fully behind it.
But from what I've heard, increasingly being double vaccinated is becoming the only requirement for access to countries/ social events etc.

Discriminating against people who have made a choice not to ( for whatever reason),but can prove they pose no risk, is wrong, in my book.
Preventing people who have proven they pose no risk, from travelling/competing/going to restaurants/football matches.
Whilst allowing people who could pose a risk, but have followed the rules?

I suspect it works out cheaper for the government, in the long run.
But making the argument that it's safer to only allow vaccinated people to travel, rather than insisting on a negative test?
It just isn't a logical approach.
