Strange I was telling my fiance about hearing Greening the other day and how he used to be at radio 1.

44 is very sad.

That was my instinct, but wasn't sure how to say it. None of the people close to him appear to be that shocked, I think they knew this was coming. Still very sad.

I was led to believe that it doesn't kill you at all, strictly speaking.

As I understand it, HIV breaks down the immune system to such an extent that you become extremely vulnerable to other illnesses. Hence people with the virus tend to die of things like pneumonia.

AID's only kills about 100 people a year in the UK now. New infections are around 7000 a year but people very rarely die of AIDS in developed Western countries anymore as with treatment you can expect to live a near normal life expectancy. People die of AID's in the poor parts of the year due to lack of treatment and facilities.

Infact HIV is now downgraded from a terminal illness to a critical illness with most insurance companies now.
