I was led to believe that it doesn't kill you at all, strictly speaking.

As I understand it, HIV breaks down the immune system to such an extent that you become extremely vulnerable to other illnesses. Hence people with the virus tend to die of things like pneumonia.

And you'd be right

Thank you

The important thing here is that someone has died sadly young, perhaps on reflection, the cause is none of our business?

Is there a stat you haven't made up....errrmmmm I mean don't know?

Read, and the shut the f*** up, thanks.

Most heterosexual infections are bi sexual men giving it to women

I seriously doubt it, given the far lower prevelance of infection in bi/homosexual relationships to begin with these days. If you're putting forward random theories, I'd suggest that heterosexual drug users are the widest spreaders of HIV to heterosexual women - drug use being one of the main transmission vectors. The infection rate for receptive unprotected vaginal sex is only 20% that of receptive unprotected anal sex, but those practising anal sex are far more bombarded with safety warnings (whether they chose to listen to them or not).

Statistically the chances of catching hiv from an hiv positive partner on a one off event is

Woman to man protected sex 5000/1
Woman to man un protected sex 500/1
Man to Man un protected anal sex 33/1

How is it our business anyway?!

Well its none of my business but I just wondered.

What does annoy me though is that the BBC just say he's died and because he was one of theirs, don't give a reason. If it was anyone else they would have 10 cameras plonked on his doorstep with every personal detail of his life bandied around.

gives - 5 in 10000 for the second (2000/1); no figures for the first.

Remember, however, that in anal sex theres a receptive and non receptive partner. The receptive partner has, according to those US govt. figures, a 50 in 10000 chance (200, not 33) of infection, and the insertive partner a 6.5 in 10000 chance.

All of which are odds I'd still rather not to take with my life, though.

Are these your odds or do you actually have a source?! I'm genuinely interested!
