Think you're spot on, IMO there's still a massive chance this season won't be completed. Should we be lumbering ourselves with massive contracts in this scenario?. Some spending big could live to regret it...

I think last season showed that whatever happens the season will conclude. Without it the TV money stops and football is bankrupt.

I agree with you, the season will finish.

I totally disagree with posters saying we should be super cautious and protect our money. Of course we shouldn’t spend stupid money but we can’t get left behind.

I live Tony but there is sometimes the impression that we know better than anyone else: nearly every other club are spending and investing and despite what some in here say we are really not. We have a net gain of circa 15/20m. Are they all wrong and we are right, seems unlikely.

The club lose a figure north of 6 figures for every Premier League home game when fans are not allowed to attend so that has to be factored in to any transfer business

It's not a question of 'knowing better than anyone else' though is it ??? More a slightly different approach/policy. It's obvious we want to develop our own players primarily (working extremely well), and then have a clear set of criteria for anyone we buy (young, good stats, not a dickhead, within a price range, within a wage range, upgrade on what we have etc) - if we don't sign someone we've been 'linked' with (which is quite possibly BS anyway) it'll be down to one or more of those criteria not being met. It doesn't take much to work out why we haven't signed the players that have gone elsewhere in this window in most cases. Really not worth getting worked up about other clubs spunking huge amounts on players IMO - a large majority won't be as successful as they expect - seems to me our strategy and longer terms plans are coming together quite well based on our current approach.

Who is leaving us behind currently ? Also, re the 'net gain' of 15/20m, we made a loss much bigger than that last year. It's not profit. Every £ you want us to spend on a player at the moment will come from Tony's pocket - even without the Covid impact on finances. Imagine if we buy no-one at all we (well, Tony) will lose £50m+ this year.

Pre Covid the club was losing £22m a year, in cashflow terms haemorrhaging £16.5m. So TB was having to pump in huge sums in personal funds to cover that. There is no money to protect.

Villa and Everton keep spending money they don’t have, as their owners financially dope to buy higher league positions than all their previous duff buys would otherwise allow.

Ha ha! And goal scoring isn’t a contribution?
Clearly Sinclair’s figures would’ve fallen through the floor over time and that is the key to those stats being truly meaningful. Number of games/time on the pitch/percentage starts.
Origi’s stats give a false impression

Playing for liverpool gives his stats a false impression

Quite a sizable chunk of that was spent on our training facilities and ground improvements. But yes I cant see him wanting to do that every year especially during these uncertain times.

Any club that isn’t just relying on one senior striker and one up and coming youngster to lead the line for a whole season is leaving us behind. We are one or two injuries away from disaster and the would be such a waste of a promising start.

-I think we'll sign someone, but
-if we don't, it won't be a disaster - Viktor, Leo, Ali J at least could 'do a job', we'll get way more goals from midfield this year too
-we have a window in Jan so wouldn't necessarily be the whole season

Which clubs have left us behind ?

Newcastle - Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle, Joelinton and Callum Wilson.

They’d smash us.

Oh.

Grujic in the shop window as well. We've held an interest in him before I believe.

Pony.

Liverpool have looked a class above, aside from him. I hope he doesn't become the new Benteke, unless Palace want him......

Silver hair....instant breach of the no dickheads rule.

Well he did score the 7th (seventh) goal against Lincoln City, so he's clearly got something about him.
