A counter argument. Given our fairly recent history and our over dependence on one mans financial input, aren’t we better of being prudent while we ride this economic shitstorm? I can see the likes of Palace and Villa massively over stretching financially and really struggling in a year or two.

I don’t want to see us go through that again. I’m more than happy with us playing it safe

Think you're spot on, IMO there's still a massive chance this season won't be completed. Should we be lumbering ourselves with massive contracts in this scenario?. Some spending big could live to regret it...

Palace won't change. High paid mercenary dross and nothing on Selhurst.

They'll sell half the holmesdale to Asda rather than live within their means.

Agree.

We might as well stick now I think. We are playing well (and scoring) with the side we have. This squad will not face relegation IMO, even without any further additions. If we can add quality on low wages then fine, but at this point there is no need to add any financial pressure when you consider that, as you say, football is quite likely to stop again unfortunately.

Our net transfer balance: +£14.4m this window. I'd be quite happy if it stays that way tbh.

Bearing in mind the new lockdown measures being introduced, the cancelling of fans from October and the very likely outcome of further measures going into winter and the cold/flu season, then it would seem to me that your concerns about the season not completing are very real. There’s also the knock-on effect of loss of revenue due to the fans decision.

We’re in a good position with our squad - if anyone has serous concerns about the level of our squad after 2 games, then they must be watching different games to me. I accept the concerns regarding our limited striking options if something happens to Maupay, but Trossard and Connolly have booth scored already this season.

With the creativity in midfield, I can see quite a few more goals coming from there too this campaign.

Stability is much more of an important factor at this point in time, than an additional strike to try to pus to a stop half finish. Of course I’d love to sign another quality striker, but these are ‘interesting times’ as they say....

I’m of the opinion that we’ve probably made an offer to the club and the player along with a number of other teams and he’s going to bide his time and make a decision late in the window

He knows he’s not going to a bigger club than the one he’s already at

So he’s probably got a choice of someone like us or a Greek / Turkish outfit who’ll have a group of champions league fixtures followed by a run in the Europa league

I hope that he joins us!

Kinda shows what a crap stat that is for measuring consistent contribution

From the Independent:

REDS AGREE SARR FEE
Liverpool have found an agreement with Watford for Ismaila Sarr, report France Football.

The fee could be in the region of £32-37m for the winger.

A salary of £5.5-6.5m - in the region of £120,000 per week - is also thought to be enough to finalise a deal for another upgrade and additional depth in attack after the signing of Diogo Jota.

If confirmed, Liverpool should start to move their unwanted players out soon...

And while I'm here, around £35m and £120k pw seems like a LOT of money for Sarr

Probably because it’s measuring simply goalscoring, not consistent contribution [emoji2369]

Ha ha! And goal scoring isn’t a contribution?
Clearly Sinclair’s figures would’ve fallen through the floor over time and that is the key to those stats being truly meaningful. Number of games/time on the pitch/percentage starts.
Origi’s stats give a false impression

I remember Liverpool got loads of grief for paying over the odds for Sadio Mane from Southampton at that time. Klopp seems to have a decent eye for the kind of player he wants

True enough!

It's the wage that really sticks out for me. Crazy money for a player currently in the Championship, with 1 decent season in the Prem (5 goals & 4 assists in 28 games) under his belt previously. He'll be on, what, £20-25k currently? That's some payrise

According to soccerbase Watford paid £25M for him, according to wikipedia it was 'in the region of' £30M.

An occasional sub can't make a 'consistent contribution'.
