I got one of those Stoke vouchers . That Stoke game was Wardy's last ever for Albion.
We lost if I remember .
That Sunderland match , their manger said to Melia " how about you stay up and we go to Wembley?" Imagine that now .

Wardy told me a few years ago that he wanted to stay with us for the final (obviously) but it would have meant extending his loan (or simething along those lines). When Wardy spoke to Clough, old Big Ed said to him something along the lines of 'I never got to play in a cup final so I'm buggered if I'm letting you play in one'. Apologies if this has been posted on here a million times before. Alas but for the vindictiveness of a bitter old alcoholic, history might have seen the most vile bunch of cheats (Whiteside especially) in the history of the beautiful game denied a small quota of their 'entitlement'.

Two weeks before my wedding, totally potless and offered treble time to cover at work.
Have now been married over 32 years, don't need to worry about money so much now and work to live, not live to work....I'll be at our next final

I got the voucher for the Stoke game but only after having to write to the club after not being given one when going through the turnstile for the game. I was given a piece of paper of some sort about the Final but not a voucher which I didn't realise until I got home that day but the club posted me one. Can't see that happening today. Have my ticket, programme and the same for the replay framed in my study.

I was living in the Midlands and got a ticket from a mate who was an Aston Villa season ticket holder. I found it was amongst the Unites fans but luckily managed to swap it with a reds fans who also had a ticket at the wrong end!

Yes and 30 for the reply as I was one of Ron Pavey lottery agents. Not so many available for first game as they sold them to Manchester hospitality company was the rumour.:drama:

I'm intrigued as to why that ticket says the counterfoil must be retained for at least six months. Is that why you kept it for thirty three years, just in case? :)

Wait...<double take>...five pounds for a Cup Final ticket? FIVE POUNDS??

As a season ticket holder and a lottery agent I got 4 tickets. Gave the spare ones to dad, grandad and mate and didn't make a penny.

Yes as a STH - had to take a gamble and cancel my holiday before the semi-final so I was here on the date. When I cancelled I re- booked for the following Monday so missed the replay.
