[Food] Did somebody say Just Eat….

With the ever-increasing number of young people buzzing around the city centre for Just Eat and the like, I fear it’s only a matter of time before one of them is seriously injured. From a driver’s perspective they seem fearless (or reckless) weaving through the traffic in their quest to complete deliveries on time.
Good to be working and busy but maybe they need danger money as well as tips?

Went past the Maccy Ds on Shoreham Coast Rd yesterday (Saturday) about midday and was surprised to go see there must have been 10-15 of them waiting or cycling off with lunchtime orders. As others have said, seems mostly 'student' types. Good on them. Back in the day I had 2 paper rounds, before and after school, always felt great to earn my own money.

They have suddenly multiplied in numbers in Shoreham in the last 2-3 weeks. Often see them delivering from Holmbush Maccy Ds early morning in the week. There are some seriously lazy/unhealthy customers around....

Very rare to get a tip as its all paid on line before. My daughter has been doing it for weeks and only got one tip

Really? We always tip takeaway delivery drivers/bikes……….

One of our local restaurants allows the tip to be added online, but the driver told me the restaurant takes 20% if we do that so I’ve reverted to cash for the tip.

Did she have to contribute to the cost of the cycle?

Yes, she is enjoying it, however the weather has been fairly good.
And no outlay for anything, she just had to sign to say she has taken everything, and agrees to pay for anything not returned.

I feel bad not tipping the riders or drivers of these delivery services. Problem is, by the time you have added on the compulsary service charge, plus a delivery charge, adding a 3rd additional payment to the cost of the actual food is kinda expecting too much. I reckon as well, at least half the time there is something wrong with the order depending on the restaurant, and the drivers cant fo anything about this like check the order as they are sealed.

I always order delivery direct from the restaurant wherever possible

Depends, from free, to £4 is my experience

Sorry maybe i worded it wrong.

If i go to Mcds for example and spend £10 how much would the same thing cost if delivered by just eat.

I ask as i have never used them or any other ones.

Good on old Just Eat, it seems they have followed Uber in offering minimum wage, paid holidays etc [emoji106]

Yeah it depends on the restaurant and what you spend. Eg if I order McDonalds from just eat and it is less than £7 then it is £3.99 delivery, over £7 then £2.50. Then they add something like 79p service charge too. If I ordered from Taco Bell, it about a pound delivery irrespective. Then Uber Eats and Deliveroo vary as well, something similar though. So your £10 McDonalds order would be 13.50 ish on Just Eat, more like £15 on Uber Eats. Probably varies town town too

I normally order at least 1 extra item, normally another big mac as something will be missed off guaranteed! Honestly the restaurants mess up the chance of any tip for the driver all too often sadly

How is that the delivery person’s fault - you’re punishing that person for a corporation’s mistake? They bought the delivery, deserve a tip. Tight *see above*.

My daughter got given £5 from her grandad , so that evening she ordered a McFlurry to be delivered , that was her £5 gone . A lazy 12 year old . She wouldn’t be doing that if I was living there that’s for sure .

No, but then I don’t use any delivery services similar to Deliveroo etc. If I did, then I would.
