True, but he has gone on to have a very decent career, unlike Leon Knight. McGhee couldn't get the best out of him and it was a shame.

I agree he has had a decent career, but I don't think anyone has got the best out of him as despite his talent, there is a lack of application.

He scored more goals for McGhee than any other manager in his career. Some people seem to want to use him as a stick to bash McGhee (I'm not necessarily including you in this BTW).

Even under Colin Wanker at Sheffield United he only scored once in a season, and was usually on the bench.

If you're going to twat around as much as he did with us, you've got to be doing a lot more and be a lot better to justify making the allowances. Even so-called 'difficult' players like Cantona at Man U trained properly and had respect for manager and team-mates. Maybe CKM just thought Withdean was shite and we were a tiny club. I doubt he'd think that now.

I think it's a very fair and valid criticism of McGhee. We had a very talented player on our books, and he failed to get the best out of him. One of few mistakes he made in his time as manager with us.

That was certainly the case when he was with us. Tbh, I don't think a lot has changed since, as he still appears to be a player who promises more than he delivers.
